Baar paused, golden eyes turning to Margaret with undisguised satisfaction. “The funds from their accounts have been transferred to your name. Consider it pocket money.”
Margaret raised an eyebrow. “That was quick. Any trouble?”
“Trouble?” Baar scoffed. “Who would dare? That old fool, the Council Chairman, tried to speak up. I slapped their bioweapon funding invoices right in his face. He’s too busy covering his own hide now.”
“Thanks,” Margaret replied, her mood noticeably improved.
“Just a ‘thanks? I’ll come to Prime Planet once I finish mopping up here. Keep a spot open for me,” Baar grumbled, sounding displeased.
The call ended.
Having heard everything, Howard felt that his last shred of hope vanished. He slumped to the floor, drained of even the strength to beg for mercy.
With a snap of Margaret’s fingers, two members of the Aegis Squad entered, hauling Howard to his feet without ceremony.
“Take him to the Cabinet. And have Quentin pick up Claude and Vincent, too. Let’s keep the family together,” she ordered.
Half an hour later, the Imperial High Cabinet chamber buzzed with tense energy once more. Nobles and officials sat rigidly in their seats.
Darien stormed into the conference room, a contingent of royal guards at his heels.
“Margaret! What is the meaning of this?” He slammed a hand on the table. “You used private troops to detain senior imperial officials! Have you no regard for imperial law?”
Seated calmly in the Regent’s chair, Margaret rested her chin on her hand, utterly unfazed.
In the center of the long table, Howard, Claude, and Vincent were bound and disheveled. Claude was still ranting about noble immunity, while Vincent trembled uncontrollably,
“Prince Darien, no need for such theatrics,” Margaret said, shifting her posture. A holographic projection instantly materialized in the air.
A dense array of evidence unfolded before everyone: transaction records, fund flow charts, and intercepted images of Stranglevine samples from the spaceport.
Darien’s eyes scanned the data, his face paling from fury to a sickly white.
decade
“Operation Harvest, a decade ago.” Margaret leaned back, her voice cutting through the silence. “These three colluded with Federation councilors, embezzled imperial funds for illegal beastman and bioweapon experiments, and wiped out an entire planet. This isn’t just corruption. It’s crimes against beastmen.”

She turned a mocking gaze on Darien. “Weren’t you planning a Regency Council, Your Highness? These three were your proposed core members. So, you intended to let war criminals run the Empire?”
Darien was speechless. He had no idea about their atrocities. With the evidence laid bare, defending them would implicate him.
“Guards!” Darien acted swiftly, trying to salvage the situation. “Take these traitors away for trial by the High Court!
“No need for the courts,” a cool voice spoke from behind Margaret.
Cheiron stepped forward. Still in uniform, his grey eyes behind gold-rimmed glasses were icy.
Under Imperial Special Wartime Statute Seventeen,” Cheiron adjusted his glasses, “cases involving mass bioweapon proliferation and crimes against beastman fall under the Emperor’s supreme jurisdiction, permitting summary execution. Given the new Emperor’s youth, the Imperial Regent holds equivalent authority.
Claude’s head jerked up. As he saw his fate sealed, desperation contorted his features. “Your Grace! You can’t do this! That business ten years ago… it was just some backwater galaxy! That place, Earth, was primitive-no basic jump technology! A low-civilization planet of savages! So what if it’s gone? It means nothing to the galaxy! Don’t throw away your future for those dead insects!”
