Chapter 259 The Game Begins
Irene held Darien’s gaze, unwavering. “All evidence has been duplicated and sent to the Inspectorate. Your Highness, is a vote still necessary?”
The color drained from Darien’s face as he slumped back into his chair, defeated.
A satisfied gleam flickered in Margaret’s eyes. She tapped the table lightly, her tone shifting to one of feigned concern. “Since there are no objections, the matter is settled. As for the other vacancies…”
Her gaze swept across the cowering nobles, and a cold smile touched her lips. “You’ve all served the Empire tirelessly and are all distinguished pillars; perhaps it’s time you focused on enjoying the fruits of your labor. Let others handle the tedious day-to-day affairs.” She turned to Irene. “Select some capable individuals from Mr. Jewett’s recommendations to assist these esteemed lords. Ease their burden.”
The words were polite, but the message was clear: a blatant stripping of power, replacing their influence with competent commoners recommended by Cheiron.
Swallowing their fury, the nobles could only mutter hollow thanks for Margaret’s consideration.
“Understood.” Irene acknowledged, making a note.
The next two hours belonged entirely to Irene. With methodical precision and unyielding resolve, she dismantled Darien’s network across various departments under the guise of ‘assisting’ the nobility. Clean- record officials from humble backgrounds filled the newly vacated posts.
The Cabinet’s power structure was reshuffled entirely within a single afternoon.
By the meeting’s end, the nobles practically fled the chamber. Darien lingered last, his eyes shooting daggers at Margaret’s retreating back.
But she ignored him completely, exiting with Irene.
Inside the hovercar, Margaret leaned against the window, reviewing the personnel list.
“Well done. Darien is probably smashing furniture right now,” she said, tossing the document onto the center console.
Irene’s posture remained rigidly straight. “This is just the beginning. He retains significant influence within the military. If cornered, he might resort to his private forces.”
Silence seuled in the cabin for a moment. Margaret watched the neon-lit cityscape blur past, a low, soft chuckle escaping her. “I’m counting on it. The noble factions are a tangled mess. Legal procedures could take a decade to untangle. If he doesn’t make a move, how else can I justify a purge? His desperate gamble provides the perfect excuse for a clean, swift cut. I aim to tear it all out by the roots.”
Irene paused, then understood. They were leaving a deliberate opening, provoking Darien into rebellion to legitimize a thorough cleansing.
Margaret’s gaze returned from the window, her tone softer, “Keep your guard up these next few days. Have Quentin arrange discreet protection for your commutes. Although, his focus will likely be on me. You

As soon as Margaret returned to the villa, Norman came barreling into Margaret’s arms, her small body warm and smelling of milk.
She tilted her face up, her red hair falling over her forehead, eyes bright with anticipation. “Margaret!”
Margaret’s expression instantly softened. She bent to scoop the girl up, giving her a slight bounce. Norman had indeed gained some weight, her cheeks fuller after weeks of attentive care.
Timothy emerged from the kitchen with a platter of meticulously cut fruit. “My Lady, try some. Just washed.”
Leaning over, she took a piece from his hand. Her eyes scanned the room. Tyrone had already flopped onto the sofa, activating his Holo-bracelet, while Quentin settled quietly beside him.
“Where’s Cheiron?” she asked.
