If my suspicion is right, and if the Central Brain is indeed a system, then every puzzle in this world might unravel.

Why this world? Why her? Why did Primo share its source code?

And the most pressing question of all-where was Vex?

Cheiron retrieved his Holo-bracelet and dialed.

After three rings, the connection clicked open.

A warm, elderly male voice answered, laced with gentle amusement. “Cheiron. To what do I owe this rare call? Need to borrow a lab again?”

Cheiron said, his tone respectful, “Uncle, not this time. Her Grace, the Imperial Regent, wishes to visit the Central Brain’s physical core. I require a Director-level authorization for the main server room.”

A brief silence followed on the other end.

The old man’s voice now held a note of genuine curiosity.

“The Imperial Regent wants to see the Central Brain? How fascinating. In my thirty years as Director, no member of the Imperial family has ever asked to see that giant piece of hardware.”

“Uncle…”

A soft chuckle came through. “Very well, very well. Consider it done. Official business, official channels. I’ll process the code tonight. Bring Her Grace by tomorrow morning.”

He added warmly, “And do tell her the server room is kept quite cold. An extra layer would be wise.”

“Understood. Thank you, Uncle.”

“No need for thanks. Off you go now-you’ve interrupted my experiment, and my hand is shaking.”

The call ended.

Cheiron put away his device and turned back to Margaret. “Tomorrow morning. I’ll take you.”

“Your uncle seems kind.”

A faint, genuine smile touched Cheiron’s lips. “He’s spent his entire life at the Academy. Power holds no interest for him; he’s happiest buried in his lab.”

His expression softened into something more probing. “May I ask… what sparked this sudden need to see the Brain?”

Margaret didn’t answer immediately.

Turning, she leaned back against the railing, arms folded. “A hunch.”

Cheiron gave a slow, accepting nod and let the matter drop.

From the garden below, a dramatic wail suddenly pierced the air. “Hey! Who told you to put my limited- edition antique there? That was a gift from my mother!”

It was followed by a delivery droid’s flat, emotionless reply. “Instruction execution complete. Next item-”

“Wait, wait, wait! I didn’t specify the location! Have the decency to let me finish!”

Peering over the railing, Margaret saw Timothy chasing a hapless android across the lawn, his golden hair a wild mess. Norman trailed behind, clutching a fluffy cushion and laughing so hard her red hair shook.

Margaret couldn’t suppress a small, weary smile.

Pushing away from the railing, she headed for the stairs. “Come on. Better intervene before he dismantles the new place.”

Descending into the living room revealed a transformation.

The once-sparse area was now filled with opulent, lavish furniture, a testament to Timothy’s extravagant

taste.

Timothy himself had collapsed on a plush sofa, catching his breath, his shirt disheveled and two buttons undone.

A state-of-the-art delivery android stood frozen in the corner, its red optic sensor glowing, manipulator arms poised.

Norman, still giggling, hugged a throw pillow nearby.

Across the room, Tyrone worked with silent intensity on a virtual keyboard by the floor-to-ceiling window, while Quentin stood motionless behind him, a quiet sentinel.

Margaret walked over and nudged Timothy’s leg with her foot. “Why pick a fight with a machine?”

Looking up with a wounded expression, Timothy pointed toward the foyer. “It won’t listen. I told it to put that thing on the coffee table, but it insisted on the foyer.”

His finger landed on an ostentatious, diamond-encrusted pink crystal punch bowl. “That’s an antique, My mother paid a fortune for it at auction. What if it gets damaged?”

A glance at the garishly vibrant bowl made Margaret rub her temples. “The foyer’s fine. It wards off misfortune.”
