Back when Irene had shown her the hologram, that private yard with its greenery had immediately grabbed Margaret’s attention. In this world, anything green was worth more than its weight in gold.

A silver-white hover taxi pulled up to the curb without a sound,

Margaret slid the door open, climbed in, and recited the address. The taxi lifted off effortlessly, cruising high above Prime Planet City.

She settled back in her seat and gazed out the window. From this height, the city sprawled beneath her in a dense patchwork of buildings, with aircraft crisscrossing the sky like shuttling needles. Every so often, the summit of an especially tall structure caught the light and glinted.

Once they passed beyond the central district, the buildings thinned out noticeably.

The taxi came to a gentle halt.

Margaret looked out the window. The area around her was barren. In the Interstellar Era, plants were rarer than precious metals. There wasn’t a single decent new building in sight. The bare alloy road stretched straight ahead, and at the end of it stood her newly assigned villa.

“The cost of this trip has been covered by the Female Protection Center. Thank you for your outstanding contribution to the Interstellar Era, Ms. Greene!” The taxi was unmanned but remotely controlled, and a human voice came from the front seat.

Margaret froze for two seconds.

Contribution? What contribution?

But a free ride was a free ride. She muttered a quick thank you and got out.

The moment she stepped up to the front gate, a small silver probe extended from above and scanned her with a gentle blue light.

“Identity confirmed. Welcome home, Ms. Greene.”

The heavy metal gate slid open silently.

“Whoa! Host, this is our home?!” Primo was screaming so loud in her head it was deafening.

Margaret didn’t rush inside. She turned and walked around to the yard first.

A full carpet of lush green grass covered the courtyard. Clusters of small, unfamiliar plants dotted the corners. Right in the center stood a tree over six and a half feet tall.

In this Interstellar Era, this was an absurdly luxurious setup. Even someone of Cheiron’s caliber only had a few public flower beds outside his house. This property had an entire yard of real grass.

And the tree wasn’t small either. It had thick branches and dense leaves. Someone had clearly put serious effort into growing it. She could hang a swing from it someday, sit under it with a book in the afternoon

sun.

Margaret’s lips curved up without her realizing it. Then she turned and walked inside.

The moment she stepped through the door, she was hit with overwhelming high tech. The lights lit up in layers as she moved, the color temperature automatically adjusting to a warm, comfortable white. The whole house’s smart management system was already online. Hidden panels on the walls glowed faintly.

The spacious living room was connected to an open kitchen. She walked over and pulled open the massive double-door refrigerator.

Empty? Not even a bottle of water? But that made sense. Irene had specifically mentioned that morning that she needed to confirm which property she was moving into first so they could arrange the food delivery and her personal aircraft.

She closed the fridge and kept exploring. The first floor had an entertainment room, a reception room, and even a small indoor heated pool. On the second floor, the standalone medical pod sat quietly in its dedicated room, exactly as Irene had shown her in the hologram.

She raised her wrist and glanced at her Holo-bracelet. Irene had mentioned adding her on social media.

Social media?

“Primo, what do people around here use to chat?”

“StarChat!” Primo answered instantly. “It’s the Interstellar Era’s universal messaging app. The original owner had an account.”
