Quentin nodded, pulled the mask back over his face, and slipped out through the door into the darkness.

The room fell quiet.

Tyrone walked back to his desk and picked up Margaret’s file. In the photo, she stared back at him with cold eyes, like nothing in the universe mattered to her.

He ran his thumb along the edge of the holographic projection.

“I really want to meet you. Soon.”

Margaret walked up ahead, while Timothy stuck close behind her, glued to her side.

“My Lady, there’s a restaurant just ahead that specializes in deep-sea king crab. I had them hold the best table.” Timothy quickened his pace and fell into step beside her, his blue eyes bright with eagerness.

At the mention of good food, a flicker of interest darted through Margaret’s eyes, but her face stayed perfectly composed.

“Whatever you think,” she said, her tone casual.

Timothy caught that quick glint anyway. He couldn’t stop the grin that spread across his face.

The Valoran Galaxy ranked in the top three for cost of living across the entire interstellar domain, and Timothy went all out.

Their ride was the Hurst Group’s exclusive hover-supercar. Its plates alone granted automatic clearance at every traffic checkpoint.

The restaurant was built inside a transparent dome at the bottom of the ocean, with giant glowing jellyfish drifting past on all sides.

Timothy didn’t let Margaret lift a finger the entire meal. He wouldn’t even let the waitstaff come near. He shelled the crab legs, deboned the fish, and sliced the fruit into perfect bite-sized pieces himself.

The shopping afterward was even more over the top,

Margaret glanced at a new Holo-bracelet on display in a luxury storefront window-just a passing look, nothing more. Five minutes later, the store manager was personally delivering the top-tier model to their hovercar, sweat beading on his forehead,

“Why did you buy so much?” Margaret stared at the shopping bags piled across the backseat.

Timothy flashed an innocent smile. “You looked at them. That means they had value. I don’t have much going for me, just money. If you help me spend some of it, you’re really doing me a favor”

It was the kind of thing that made her want to smack him and admit he had a point at the same time.

By evening, they made it back to the beachfront hotel.

Timothy’s private suite took up the entire top floor. The whole level had been gutted and converted into a single presidential suite.

The alloy doors slid open. The space inside was so massive it made Margaret’s villa back on Prime Planet -the one with the yard-look cramped.

No wonder Timothy hadn’t bothered to hide how unimpressed he was with her place on that first visit.

It had three oversized bedrooms and seven or eight distinct living areas. The master bedroom was the real showstopper. Three walls were floor-to-ceiling glass. Lying in bed, they could see the entire Valoran Galaxy skyline, plus the coastline stretching out below.

Margaret showered and changed into the silk sleep set Cheiron had bought her. She let out a yawn.

She turned around. Timothy was still sprawled across the leather sofa in the master bedroom, clutching a throw pillow to his chest like he planned to take root there.

“It’s late. Go back to your own room.” Margaret walked over and nudged the sofa leg with her foot.

Timothy blinked those blue eyes at her. “My Lady, I get scared sleeping alone. This room is huge. I can sleep on the floor, I swear I won’t bother you.”

Margaret wasn’t buying any of it. “The door’s that way. Three. Two…”

Timothy pouted and dragged himself up in slow motion. He made his way to the door, glancing back the whole way. “Goodnight, My Lady. Call me if you need anything. I’m right next door.”

The door shut, and the room finally went quiet.

Margaret headed to the bed. She was just about to lie down when her Holo-bracelet buzzed.

She saw a StarChat message from Baar. “You went to the Valoran Galaxy?”

Margaret replied, “Commander Iverson, your intel network could use an upgrade.”

Baar’s response came fast, the tone almost apologetic. “Apologies. The Sirius Galaxy border is getting hammered by a large-scale insectoid assault. I can’t get away right now.”
