Margaret leaned against the headboard and touched the back of her neck. It was slick with cold sweat.

Who the hell was that? No way he’s just some random hitman Phoebe dug up.

The next morning, Timothy showed up at her door with dark circles under his eyes. He’d barely slept, his head spinning with how little progress he’d made with Margaret.

“My Lady, did you sleep well?” He flashed his eager smile the second the door opened.

Margaret pulled the door wide. She stood there in her silk robe and gave him a flat look. “No. Someone broke into my room last night.”

The smile dropped right off Timothy’s face. His expression shifted so fast his golden hair practically bristled.

He stepped forward and grabbed her shoulders, his eyes scanning her from head to toe. “Someone broke in?! Are you hurt? Did he touch you? What the hell do I pay security for-to stand around looking pretty? I’ll fire every last one of them!”

“I’m fine.” Margaret smacked his hands away and rubbed her shoulder, where he’d squeezed too hard. Then she headed straight for the dining room. “He got away.”

A wave of raw, unbridled pressure rolled off Timothy. He got on the comm with Hurst Group security and demanded every second of footage from the night before,

Ten minutes later, the results came in-and the security higher-ups were sweating bullets.

They’d found nothing.

“Sir… the surveillance footage is clean. No signs of tampering. None of the infrared or pressure sensors were triggered at any point…” The security chief’s voice trembled through the comm.

The man who’d been in Margaret’s room had left zero trace.

“Useless! All of you!” Timothy hurled the comm unit across the room.

“Dig! I want every asset we have on this-tear the whole damn galaxy apart if you have to! Find that bastard! Someone touched what’s mine, and I want him in pieces!” Timothy roared at his people.

The sweet, eager puppy Margaret saw every day was gone, replaced by the ruthless heir to the Hurst Group

Margaret sat at the dining table drinking her milk, completely indifferent to the chaos around her,

The man had come in through the window-no camera would’ve caught that. And Margaret knew deep down that anyone who could slip in like that wasn’t ordinary,

Besides, he hadn’t seemed hostile. Otherwise, would she be sitting here eating breakfast?

Her thoughts flicked to those two mysterious husbands on her match list.

“Enough. Stop yelling.” Margaret took a bite of her toast, her tone calm. “The guy walked right through your system without a trace. That tells me Hurst Group tech needs an upgrade. Throwing a fit won’t fix anything.”

At the sound of her voice, Timothy reined himself in. He ducked his head and shuffled over to her, all wronged and pitiful.

“My Lady…” He tugged at her sleeve, those blue eyes full of lingering fear and desperate pleading. “Let me sleep in your room tonight. I’ll take the floor, the couch, the bathtub-I don’t care. I swear I won’t bother you. I need to keep watch. I can’t relax otherwise.”

“No.” Margaret shot him down without a second’s pause.

What if he comes back tonight?” Timothy pressed, sticking to her like glue.

Margaret swallowed her toast, pulled out a napkin, and dabbed at the corner of her mouth. She looked up at him with a smirk. “If he comes back, I’ll wrap you up and gift you to him.”

Timothy spent the entire day personally overseeing security as they boosted the penthouse defenses by three full tiers. He didn’t come back until evening.

Margaret was curled up on the leather sofa in the living room, fiddling with the new Holo-bracelet Timothy had given her.

Blue holographic light glowed in the air as Starnet forum pages scrolled past.
