Chapter 107

Scarlett’s POV

Knock Knock.

I frowned when a soft knock rapped at my door. My lashes fluttered open, heavy from the exhaustion I had been carrying these past days. My whole body was still begging for rest and sleep. When the knocking stopped, I sighed in relief and tried to go back to sleep. Maybe it was just my dream.

Knock Knock.

This time, the knock was followed by a muffled, yet persistent voice through the wooden panel.

“My lady? Are you awake now?”

I frowned, letting out a heavy sigh as I massaged my temples. I wanted to ignore it, but as soon as I closed my eyes again, the knocking resumed, firmer this time as if it wouldn’t stop unless I opened the door.

Damn it. What is it this time?!

Before I could respond, the door creaked open. I pushed myself up on my elbows, blinking at the figure slipping inside.

It was a maid–a woman dressed in Nightshade’s servant uniform, bowing her head as she held a tray with a cup of water.

“My apologies for disturbing you, Luna,” the maid said softly, clutching the tray with the glass. “Alpha Lucien gave orders earlier. He wants me to attend you when you wake. He said I should bring water since you usually get thirsty when you wake up.”

I pinched my brows together. Lucien? That sounded like him, always worrying, though I didn’t recall mentioning it. After all, the first thing Lucien did whenever I woke up was hand me a glass of water.

I looked at the maid, her head still bowed. Still, I could see she was tall–taller than any woman I knew.

“Luna, where should I place this water?” Her voice brought me back.

“Give it to me,” I said while rubbing my temples, barely managing to keep from falling asleep again during our conversation.

She handed me the tray, and I reached for the glass of water without much thought.

“Thanks,” I muttered, my voice still husky from sleep. I took the water she handed to me, tipped it back, and drank deeply.

I saw the maid give me a smile. I didn’t think much of it and just nodded.

1 waved my hand dismissively. “Thank you. I’ve drunk it now, so you can go back and assist Lucien with whatever he needs. I’m going back to sleep and will rest a little longer. Tell him to find that scout immediately.”

The maid dipped her head again. “Of course, Luna.”

The way she said ‘Luna‘ was filled with mockery and… masculinity.

I frowned, placing the empty glass on the nightstand and lying back against the pillow, taking a deep breath. But I couldn’t pinpoint why, something felt wrong.

My blood began to thrum unnaturally fast in my veins, making me pause. A strange heat climbed my neck, searing into my chest. I couldn’t help but gasp, clutching my temples at the sudden pain, and also feeling weak all over.

My eyes snapped open. My pulse pounded and every muscle in my body was heavy. Not with fatigue.

I also felt sleepy.

My eyes darted toward the maid, who was still standing at the foot of the bed, her–no, his–face raised, a wide smile on his lips this time.

I thought I’d have a chance to kill you in that forest, but that damn Alpha was always with you. I had to move to another plan.”

My eyes narrowed. “Faye.”

He tilted his head, amused. “Seems you know who’s behind this. Perfect.”

I let out a mocking chuckle. “She’s been jealous of me to the point she can’t wait to get rid of me. Seems she still hasn’t given up on that plan.”

The traitor chuckled. “She won’t give up until she gets what she wants. She will only feel safe if you’re dead.”

My hand twitched toward the dagger I usually kept under my bed, but I couldn’t move my arm. The drug had sunk deeper into my bloodstream, making my limbs sluggish.

I couldn’t move my body. It was as if all my strength had left me.

When I noticed him step closer, narrowing the distance, I glared at him.

“Stay back!” I snapped, forcing strength into my tone. I tried to push myself off the mattress, but my knees buckled and I collapsed back. My body refused to obey, as if it no longer belonged to me.
