Chapter 106
Lucien’s POV
After convincing Scarlett that I would only use myself as bait and wouldn’t put myself in danger, I watched as her eyelids grew heavier and she burrowed into my arms. Her breathing finally steadied while I gently patted her back.
What she needed most was rest. After all, what we had encountered and experienced during the six days in Hollow Glen hadn’t been easy, and I felt like I was the one dragging her down.
For the first time, her face was relaxed, lips parted slightly–so different from before, when we were in the forest and she would wake at the slightest sound of my raspy breathing or even the rustling grass. She was always alert, on guard, especially when I couldn’t move at the time and couldn’t share her burden.
But now that I could, I was determined to protect her and catch that traitor before anyone else fell to his schemes. Fortunately, I was their target; if it had been Scarlett, she would have thrown herself into danger regardless, even as she desperately needed rest.
Still, despite her body pleading for sleep, she was too stubborn and kept fighting the urge to rest.
I let out a helpless sigh and patted her head. “Rest. You’ve done enough. Now, leave this to me.”
Her lashes fluttered, but she didn’t open her eyes. With a faint, sleepy nod, she finally surrendered to exhaustion. My throat tightened. I leaned in, memorizing every detail of her face before I kissed her forehead. “I’m going now.”
I tucked the blanket up to her chin and made sure she was comfortable before slipping out of our room and closing the door.
My eyes fell on the nearest warrior standing at his post, and I called him over.
“What’s your order, Alpha?” he saluted.
I pointed to my room. “Guard my Luna. Don’t let anyone enter her room. If anyone insists, tell them it is my order.”
“What about your sister, Alpha?” he asked politely.
I paused, thinking twice before answering. “Let her in if she wants, but tell her to keep her voice down and not to wake Scarlett; she’s resting. Aside from her, don’t let anyone into the room. Do you understand?”
“Yes, Alpha! I understand.”
I clapped his shoulder once to seal the order. Since it was already confirmed there was a traitor lurking in my territory, I couldn’t risk Scarlett’s safety even for a second. I had to catch him before he could harm someone else.
I was about to turn away when someone called to me, making me pause and turn my head. “What is it?”
“The investigation unit requests your presence, Alpha.”
It seemed there were results already.
“Lead the way.”
When I entered the room. I saw the two warriors who had vowed to protect Scarlett in the forest yesterday. They were already waiting for me, along with two other members of the investigation unit. The torches lining the walls cast restless
shadows across their faces.

Nick rose immediately upon seeing me. “Alpha.”
“How’s the investigation so far?” I asked.

Arnold, standing beside Nick, was the one who spoke. “We’ve compiled the results of the investigation and connected the dots. Please sit, Alpha.”
I nodded and took my seat, facing them. “Speak.”
Arnold unfurled a sheet of parchment, hastily scrawled with notes. “Based on Luna’s confirmation when we took her with us to verify if the scout who betrayed us was Samuel–whose body was thrown into the depths of Hollow Glen. Luna confirmed that the scout who led us to Hollow Glen and trapped us had scars on his arms and calluses on his hands. But the body we found in the forest, claimed to be Samuel, didn’t have any scars or calluses on his hands despite being a warrior.”
Nick added, “We concluded that someone has been using his identity.”
I nodded. “Continue.”
The investigator beside him, a thin man with sharp eyes, said, “We checked every unit for new arrivals over the past two weeks. One figure stood out: someone working under logistics, assigned to the butcher station. No one remembers his name, and one person noted that he acted strange–never talking, keeping his head down so they couldn’t describe his face –but his scars and rough hands fit Luna Scarlett’s description exactly. He’s the only one we’ve narrowed down.”
My brow arched. “A butcher, huh?”
Arnold nodded. “He had access. He could move through supply lines without suspicion. If he’s a skinwalker–or trained in disguise–then the butcher station would be perfect for a cover.”
I leaned against the table, fist pressing into the wood.
“What should we do, Alpha?” they asked.
“We’ll catch the snake, but don’t startle him,” I ordered calmly. “Where is he now?”
Nick exchanged a look with the investigator. “It was reported that he’s usually in the kitchen, spending his time butchering meat as assigned. One staff member swore he saw him there.”
“What time is his rest schedule?” I asked while flipping through their investigation documents.
“His rest time is nine in the evening, so we still have plenty of time to act,” Arnold replied, and everyone agreed, including
“Then it’s settled. We’ll get him.”
“I want to be the one to torture him. Will you allow it, Alpha?” Arnold suddenly asked before I left to command the warriors.
I paused, looked him in the eye, then glanced at Nick, who was standing guard behind Arnold with a guarded expression, as if ready to strike if I threatened his friend.
I let out a helpless sigh and nodded, not minding Nick’s attitude. “Fine. That’ll save me trouble and keep my hands clean.” Arnold’s face brightened as he hurriedly thanked me over and over. I had never seen anyone as enthusiastic as he was about torturing an enemy.
But since Nick was protecting him like an older brother, there shouldn’t be any problem.
“Prepare your weapons. We capture the snake,” I ordered calmly, and they quickly complied. Before I left, I added, “Also, lock. 2/4

down Nightshade completely. Every face and name gets checked and verified before anyone enters or leaves the territory.”
“Understood, Alpha. I’ll inform the other warriors,” Arnold said firmly before he and Nick left.
I turned to the other two investigation unit members and gestured. “Let’s head to the kitchen.”
We arrived at the kitchen doors. I raised a hand, stopping the two members while the rest of the warriors took their positions–some outside the Nightshade Pack, others inside, guarding and watching for the spy.
The scents were thick with iron and spice, raw meat hanging from hooks. My eyes narrowed. The man we were supposed to catch wasn’t there.
The cook who led us in froze. He stammered, “I’m sure he was here, Alpha. I–I swear it! Arnold told me to monitor his moves and report if anything seemed off. I was watching him closely. Just an hour ago, he said he’d fetch more salt… I thought he’d already returned, since I saw a shadow inside and assumed it was him… who would have thought…”
My eyes shot over to the “shadow” the cook had seen.
There it was. A mannequin, standing tall, apron wrapped around it, the same build as the scout who led us to Hollow Glen and trapped us. Days we spent getting back, and now it felt as though it was mocking us for being fools.
Fuck
He got away.
Arnold swore under his breath. “He played us!”
