Chapter 12

He stared at me in shock, stammering, “W–What did you just say?”

“You heard me,” I said quickly.

His face twisted with sudden fury, as if he wanted to kill me.

He’d better not dare. I wouldn’t go down that easily.

When he didn’t move, I turned and walked away. I silently wished he wouldn’t follow me. Of course, I wasn’t that lucky. The entire universe seemed to hate me.

“You’re not leaving me,” Alexander roared, grabbing my wrist with the last bit of his strength, refusing to let go. His grip was tight enough to keep me still, but not enough to bruise.

I didn’t flinch. I didn’t let him win.

Instead, I stared straight into his eyes and said, “Let go.”

There was a flicker of yellow in the corner of his eyes–his wolf was rising to the surface. “You think this is over? You think just because you talked to him for a bit, even shared a bed, that it erases everything between us?”

‘Everything we had?” I laughed, sharp and bitter. “Do you mean before or after you shoved your dick into Faye like she was some charity case?”

He clenched his jaw tight.

I jerked my wrist free. “Alexander, the moment you did that, I stopped being your Luna. I became mine.”

A growl rumbled from his throat, full of wolfish rage. “You could’ve been great. You were great–until you chose to become. another Alpha’s whore.”

That was it.

I didn’t hit him. I didn’t scream. I stepped closer and said, calm and cold, “I still am great. Just not yours.”

Fire burned behind his eyes. He shoved me against the wall, one large hand clamping over my chin. “You dare defy me? Scarlett! Did you forget I’m still your Alpha? I could have you executed!”

I swallowed the pain and stared back at him. For a long moment, his handsome features remained motionless, but every ounce of warmth in his gaze had vanished. Only coldness remained. How had I not seen it before? He had never seen me as anything but a tool to stabilize his power. That’s why it had been so easy for him to cast me aside.

Like every Alpha, he thought powerful women couldn’t be desirable. I had to learn to play the game.

I instantly burst into fake tears, my voice shaking with fear. “No, Alexander, you’re always my Alpha I’ll always be loyal to our pack–the Crescent Moon Pack. But Alpha Lucien made an offer… and I think we should at least consider it-

“What offer?” Alexander asked.

I glanced at his arm. “I need to breathe. Can you let go? It hurts.”

His brow twitched before he finally released me. “I’m listening.” He returned to the couch, crossed one leg over the other, and gestured for me to continue.

I sat across from him and began, “Alpha Lucien said that if I assist him by offering some guidance on omega management, he’ll agree to an alliance with us.”

You’ve always wanted this, haven’t you? Pretend to ally, learn their strengths, then crush them.”

As I spoke, I moved closer to him and laid my hand on his thigh, slowly sliding it upward. “Don’t you think it’s worth a try?”

Alexander caught my wrist, eyes fixed on mine like a predator analyzing its prey.

You still love me, right? Scarlett?” he asked.

Of course,” I nodded, mimicking Faye’s sugary smile. “And I’m really worried about Faye’s emotions. You know how instable pregnant omegas can get. I hope my departure helps her pup come into this world peacefully.”

His expression softened. He pulled me onto his lap, kissed my lips, and after a long pause, said, “Scarlett, you made the right hoice. I’ll make sure Faye never threatens your position as Luna.”

Always,” I said firmly, locking eyes with him. “I’ll always do what’s right for the pack.”

What I meant was: I’ll do what’s right to take back what’s mine.
