Chapter 13
Scarlett’s POV
No.” I said loudly.
hadn’t meant to. And now I couldn’t take it back.
ucien tilted his head slightly, a faint smile playing on his lips. For a split second, I thought he already knew what I was going to say.
He looked calm, not even angry. In fact, he looked… pleased.
Bold of you to say that in my car,” he murmured, eyes finally lifting from his phone.
Bold of you to think I’d sign without any leverage,” I shot back.
He lifted his chin. “I don’t play leverage, Scarlett. I play decisions. You have one month. That’s it.”
And what happens after that month? You retract the offer?”
I take you off the table.”
That hit harder than I expected. I shifted in my seat, crossing my arms tightly, trying not to let him see how sick his words nade me feel.
He didn’t press. He went quiet again, his fingers tapping on his phone, lost in cold calculation.
As he should be. But I couldn’t shut my mouth. “I’m not refusing forever. Just until I know I can take back what’s mine.”
Your company. Your seat.”
‘My backpack,” I said flatly.
‘Should I patiently wait until you figure it out?”
“No,” I said. I was starting to sound dumb. “But you’ll have to. Because if I can bring you the contracts Alexander’s clients signed, you’ll have what you really want–control.”
His gaze slid slowly to me. “You assume too much about what I want.”
“Don’t we all?”
He stared at me like I’d grown a second head.
I didn’t know if he wanted to laugh or throw me out of the car. Hopefully not the latter.
He did neither. He simply leaned back and said calmly, “You’re cautious, I respect that. But don’t confuse caution with
control.”
“I learned the cost of blind trust the hard way,” I said evenly. “That mistake had a name. You already know it.”
Lucien’s expression didn’t change, but the air grew heavier with unspoken things.
Then–CRASH.

Chapter 13
The window beside me shattered.
“Down!” his Beta shouted from the front.

My body reacted before my brain did. I ducked instinctively–but not fast enough. Lucien’s arm shot out, pulling me tightly into his chest just as another impact hit the SUV.
We crashed together. My hand landed on his chest, his heartbeat thundering beneath my palm.
We stared at each other for half a second. His lips were close. Too close.
While I was still gasping for air, his Beta flung the door open, shouting, “We’ve got company–rogue wolves!”
A flicker of rage crossed Lucien’s eyes. “Back seat. Now.”
The Beta didn’t wait. He leapt out and slammed the door shut behind him.
The car jerked violently. I nearly screamed. Lucien grabbed the gear shift, and we sped off the road.
“What was that?” I asked, clutching anything I could grab.
“A warning,” he replied, eyes locked on the bumpy forest path ahead. My shoulder slammed into the doorframe.
“You okay?” he asked.
“Yeah. Try driving like a sane person. This isn’t Fast and Furious,” I grumbled, wincing.
He almost smiled. Almost.
Another shadow darted from the trees–too fast to be human. The rogue wolf lunged at the passenger side.
Lucien yanked the wheel hard. I slammed into the dashboard.
He cursed, slammed the brakes, and reversed into a sharp turn. The SUV skidded back onto the asphalt, tires screeching.
In the rearview mirror, I saw the rogue hesitate, then vanish into the trees.
Lucien didn’t stop. He drove until we reached a long stretch of abandoned road. Finally, he pulled over and killed the engine.
Silence fell like a curtain.
We sat there for a second, breathing hard.
Then his eyes found mine. “Are you okay?”
I looked down–broken glass had sliced a shallow cut into my palm. A thin line of blood trailed down, and I hadn’t even noticed.
“You’re bleeding,” he said softly.
Before I could react, he leaned in.
I instinctively recoiled, but he was faster. He gently but firmly grasped my wrist, his touch unbreakable yet tender. My heart stopped.

Chapter 13
I thought he was going to grab a bandage.
He didn’t
He lowered his head and–put his mouth directly on my wound.
I gasped sharply. A wave of heat surged down my spine, pooling between my legs.
My breath hitched, my throat tightening.
He slowly raised his head. A drop of blood clung to his lips. His eyes burned–dangerous, feral.
“You… you didn’t have to…” My voice trembled. I could barely stand.
He just smirked and pulled gauze from the glove box, silently wrapping my hand.

“I always do what I want,” he murmured as he licked the wound again, his voice low and rough, like thunder in the dark.
I forgot how to breathe. I swallowed hard. The way he swallowed made my mouth go dry. I shifted in my seat, and before I could stop myself, a soft moan escaped my lips.
Lucien stared at me like I was prey. Then he slowly licked the rest of the blood clean.
“Lucien…” I forced out. No. This wasn’t right. I couldn’t do this–not with another Alpha while still marked by Alexander.
“Don’t move,” he commanded. “I’m almost done.”
No, I wasn’t okay. I wanted more. I didn’t even get the words out before the back door opened. His Beta stood there–saw us -and immediately backed away in awkward silence.
“No, this isn’t what it looks like… I tried to explain.
Lucien’s expression shifted–as if he hadn’t just used his tongue on me. He rolled down the window, his face icy again, and asked the Beta, “What’s the status?
I knew he was asking about the rogues.
“They’re gone. One injured. The rest scattered, the Beta reported.
Lucien’s gaze never left mine. “We need another vehicle. You stay behind and investigate the incident.”
The Beta nodded and closed the door.
I didn’t argue. I slowly opened mine. My legs trembled–not from fear, but from adrenaline. From the way he’d looked at
I made my way to the second SUV parked behind the trees. Lucien was already inside. His Beta opened the rear door, motioning silently.
I slid in beside Lucien.
This car was sleeker. Quieter. It smelled like him–or maybe that was just my imagination.
Lucien didn’t speak. He stared ahead as the car started moving.
Then, without looking at me, he said, ‘Pull over. I’ll drive.”
