I watched as the blade made contact with my skin and a quick sting followed. Blood welled, crimson droplets sliding down my arm and falling into the ceremonial cup, turning the water dark.
The priest, Orrin, collected it carefully, taking two ceremonial cups as he mixed my blood with Lucien’s. My heart pounded as our blood swirled together, darkening and fusing until it was impossible to tell one from the other.
He raised the ceremonial cup high, chanting something I wasn’t familiar with. Although the words were foreign to me, I felt them thrumming through my bones like a song I somehow knew.
When he finished chanting, the first thing he did was to hand Lucien the ceremonial cup containing our mixed blood, then he did the same for me, and I accepted it.
“Face your Alpha or Luna,” the priest ordered, and we did so.
I turned to look at Lucien, who was as nervous as I was, but his eyes were full of warmth and affection as he looked at me. I could feel that he was anticipating this too as he grasped the cup.
“Please drink the blood if you accept each other as your Alpha or as your Luna.”
Lucien’s gaze never left mine as he drank. His throat worked, strong and sure, as though what he just consumed was not just blood, but also the vow that went with it.
After he drank, the priest looked at me. I glanced at the ceremonial cup in my hand, trembling as my heart swelled with different emotions. I hesitated, staring into the liquid–our blood, mingled, glinting strangely in the torchlight.
A thousand thoughts tore through me. Fear. Doubt.
The scars of my past had contributed greatly to my trauma. However, when I remembered Lucien, all those hesitations vanished, and he made me feel so secure that I couldn’t help but try with him.
To see the end with him and stay by his side for the rest of my life.
I was willing to let go of my doubts and fears for him.
I lifted the ceremonial cup and brought it to my lips. The metallic tang of blood hit my tongue, rich and heavy. It slid down my throat like fire, and I felt as if it reminded me that our bond was sealed.\
The moment I swallowed, heat surged through me–different from the heat I suffered when I was bonded by Alexander. This time it was tingling, and for some reason, it didn’t hurt. The sensation spread all over my veins, sinking deeply into my bones. My breath caught and a gasp tore from my chest.
The bond was sealed.
A ceremonial bond I had never experienced before, I experienced now.
I staggered, overwhelmed by this bond, but Lucien’s arm caught me.
As soon as the ceremonial bond was completed, Orrin’s voice rang out again.
“By blood and vow, by flesh and spirit, they are bonded together! The Alpha and the Luna!”
The hall exploded. Howls rose, fierce and wild, shaking the very stone. Wolves pounded their fists against their chests, some 1/4

shifting partially, their eyes glowing gold in the firelight as they kept chanting our names as if they were repeating sutras.
Kathleen whooped the loudest of all, cupping her hands around her mouth. “About time!” she shouted, laughing even as the corners of her eyes were red.
I couldn’t help but chuckle at the sight while Lucien’s hold was steady and warm.
Lucien leaned to my ear and whispered, “We are finally recognized as Alpha and Luna.”
Even without this ceremony, they had already recognized me as the Alpha’s Luna.
But it was truly different–it was on another level to go through this process to be officially recognized as their Luna.
I looked at them and shouted, “Let’s have our banquet party!”
A loud howl echoed through the Nightshade Pack. Some rushed to grab beers from storage, others brought out a large table, placing it in the center, while people from the kitchen brought out various kinds of dishes. Some strung up more sparkling and dazzling nightlights that shone even in the darkness.
Lucien and I watched as they busied themselves for our banquet.
“It’s so lively,” I commented, leaning against his broad chest.
His hand on my waist tightened. “It’s been a while since we had a banquet. After all, we usually have them after we win a war.”
The corner of my lips lifted. “Indeed. It’s satisfying to see them relaxed, unguarded, bonding together, mingling with each other.”
Even the new pack members–Alisa and the others—had been dragged by the others to mingle, to dance, and to talk.
Seeing that they didn’t feel left out and were actually enjoying the banquet made me sigh in relief.
Before Lucien could speak, someone shouted,
“The first taste of alcohol should be given by our Alpha and Luna!” Someone called, bringing a large cup filled with alcohol.
They cheered instantly and called us over, wanting us to drink first.
I let out a helpless laugh. “Let’s go!” I said, dragging Lucien with me.
A warrior handed me the cup first. “Congratulations, Luna! We have been waiting for this night to come!”
I chuckled, accepted the cup, and thanked him before lifting it to my lips and drinking half its contents as Lucien took it from me and finished the rest.
Lucien looked at me. “You’ll get drunk if you drink it all.”
Someone retorted, “That’s the plan! Let’s enjoy and get wasted!”
The crowd burst into laughter at this, echoing the sentiment. “Let’s get wasted!”
I watched them having fun and joined in, while Lucien, too, was pulled into the revelry as if they weren’t the same people who had once feared him.
I helplessly watched half the warriors bring me more food and drinks. “I thought they were afraid of Lucien?”

One, named Garrick, chuckled after drinking a large cup of beer. “They were afraid, but they know today is special, so they’re sure the Alpha won’t do anything to them. That’s why they’re confident.”
Another nodded in agreement. “This is a tradition that’s been passed down for generations. The pack will split up the Alpha and Luna to get a chance to know them better.”
