Scarlett’s POV

I watched as the atmosphere around me felt warm and homely. I observed them laughing, talking happily with each other. and getting along well. Some were already as flushed as tomatoes but kept drinking as if there was no tomorrow. Some were teasing two people who wouldn’t confess their feelings, while others, like me, just watched and ate and drank.
My thoughts paused when Kathleen pinched the side of my waist, nearly making me jump.
I looked at her. “What is it? You’re already drunk.”
Kathleen rolled her eyes and wiped her lips. “I’m not drunk. Anyway, how did my brother find out about it? How did convince him not to get mad at me for doing such things?”

Oh. It seemed she had been thinking about the one–night stand she experienced and was worried her brother would be angry
“You’re afraid of your brother?” I asked, not answering her question.
She paused and shook her head. “No, I’m not—well, I was before. He was scary when we were kids, even after our parents were gone and he became my mother and father figure, aside from being my brother. He was so strict… but I didn’t hate it because I knew he was just looking out for my well–being. I just… don’t want to disappoint him.”
I paused and let out a heavy sigh, patting her flushed cheeks. “He wasn’t disappointed in you, nor was he angry. If anything, he was angry at the man, not you. Besides, he said you’re already an adult and capable of making your own choices. In fact, he’s proud of you.”
Her eyes shone, widening as she smiled. “Really?”
I smiled. “Really.”
She giggled and drank another cup of alcohol. “He’s not the type to compliment anyone. He never complimented me, so hearing you say that makes me feel good and happy to know he’s proud of what I’m doing.”
I was about to say something when she stood up, making me look up at her as she smiled down. “I’ll go and have another chug of bottles with the other warriors.”
I rolled my eyes. “Didn’t you say you wouldn’t drink again? Look at you. You went back on your word.”
She laughed and waved her hands. “Just this once. Nothing will happen anyway. Besides, I doubt the man I slept with is from here or knows me. Even if he does, what would he do? Confront my brother and my best friend?”
I sighed helplessly as I watched her happily join the warriors who were laughing and playing games–the person who lost had to drink a bottle of alcohol.
I was about to stand up too when someone sat beside me. “There you are.”
I smiled as I turned to Lucien and caught a whiff of alcohol on him. “Drunk?”
Lucien smiled and pulled me close. “No. I’m still sober.”
I looked past his shoulder and saw the wolves who had dragged him earlier were now passed out from drinking, lying on the grass asleep, then glanced back at Lucien.
“What happened to them?” I asked.

“They dragged me off earlier to drink, so I told them whoever got me drunk would get a prize from me. That’s what happened,” he chuckled, pointing at those who dared to take on the challenge.
I rolled my eyes. “You’re bullying them. You know they can’t get you drunk easily; that’s why you suggested it.”
Lucien grinned. “Exactly. After all, my body has been trained to resist all poisons–neutralizing alcohol is one of them. That’s why I never get drunk.”
As expected, I became curious about how he would act if he did get drunk.
“So, you want to see me drunk, huh?” he teased, leaning in to whisper in my ear.
My eyes widened and I denied it instantly. “What? I don’t!”
He smirked. “So, what would you do if you did get me drunk?”
I pushed his face away. “Stop it, Lucien. You’re not going to seduce me like that.”
He just laughed and pulled me into his arms, letting me rest my head on his chest as we watched people dancing in the center, some clapping and singing along.
My eyes landed on Kathleen who was arm wrestling with an unfamiliar face, making me frown and point at him.
“Who is he? I don’t think I’ve seen him before,” I asked.
Lucien glanced at the man and answered calmly. “He’s an Alpha from another pack. I spoke to him earlier; he said he was here to pledge his alliance with me. Since we had the ceremony, I told him I’d entertain guests tomorrow and he could come back–but he said he’d just stay since the trip to his pack was quite far.”
“You knew him before?” I asked.
“Yeah. We met during council sessions before. Their pack is the wealthiest of all. If Nightshade is the strongest, then they’re the richest,” Lucien said without hesitation.
I frowned. “Why does he suddenly want to pledge his loyalty to us when we haven’t reached out to them? With that much wealth, I’m sure a lot of packs keep an eye on them.”
Lucien played with my hands. “I’ll handle it tomorrow and ask him. Honestly, I suspect something happened–maybe their pack is in trouble or being targeted, so he traveled for a day and a half just to seek an alliance with us.”
I watched as he purposely let Kathleen win so she could boast, and pretended he’d lost, watching her make him drink an entire bottle of alcohol.
I couldn’t help but frown and study the way he interacted with Kathleen. Why did I feel like his eyes were always following her, sticking to her as if she were the only one in the crowd?
Our gazes met.
I paused, his eyes locked on mine as he smiled and nodded, which I returned.
Before I could glance again, my vision turned black.
“What do you think you’re doing?” I asked, grabbing Lucien’s hands as he blocked my eyes.
“Why are you looking at him? I must remind you that I’m your legal Alpha now, and I have the right to be jealous of anyone who gets your attention,” he said calmly, as if discussing the weather.

I took his hand away, ignoring his jealousy. “Don’t you think something’s up with that Alpha? What’s his name again?”
His eyes darkened as he pinched my cheek playfully. “Are you interested in him?”
I rolled my eyes. “Don’t you think the way he looks at your sister and my best friend is… clingy?”
He paused and focused on the Alpha, who seemed to be getting close to Kathleen, laughing and bantering with her. He even let Kathleen tease him and just laughed along.
I watched Lucien’s brows furrow and eyes darken. “I’m guessing that bastard is the one who slept with Kathleen.”
I nodded slightly. The way he looked at Kathleen was filled with complex emotions, as if… as if they knew each other, but Kathleen seemed oblivious, acting like she was meeting him for the first time.
After all, the Alpha was handsome, on par with Lucien. He had muscles too–which was what Kathleen liked. If she’d seen him before, knowing her taste, she would never have stopped talking about him. But she hadn’t—which meant this was her first time seeing him.
Before I could say more, Lucien suddenly stood up.
“Where are you going?” I asked, alarmed as I watched him glower in the direction of the Alpha with Kathleen.
