“Sca!”
The moment we stepped inside, I was immediately pulled into a tight, warm embrace. She shoved her brother aside without hesitation and wrapped her arms around me, hugging me so hard it felt like she planned to squeeze the life out of me.
“…can’t breathe…” I said, flailing my hands and patting her back.
Lucien grabbed the back of her collar and pulled her away from me, finally giving me room to breathe. I let out a helpless sigh, able to inhale properly again.
Kathleen spun around and glared at him. “What are you doing? This is girl bonding.”
“You’re hurting my little wolf,” Lucien replied flatly, rolling his eyes.
“Tsk.” She clicked her tongue, shaking her head as she looked at him with mock disappointment. “It seems once you find your mate, you completely forget you even have a sister.”
The corner of my lips lifted. “Says the one who didn’t visit for three whole years–and apparently forgot she had a best friend, a brother, and a niece waiting here.”
I sighed dramatically and pretended to wipe away tears. “If I hadn’t called you for help… you wouldn’t have come back at
all…”
“I—I—” Her pupils trembled as guilt flashed across her face. “I was wrong…”
Before I could continue my fake crying, she suddenly went quiet.
I frowned. “What’s wrong?” I leaned forward slightly. “Did Draco hurt you? Just say the word and we’ll declare war on him.”
She snapped out of it immediately and shook her head. “No! Nothing like that.”
Then, as if realizing something, her gaze shifted–lingering.
“… What happened to your eyes?”
I paused.
I had almost forgotten.
୮
Lucien treated me no differently, and I myself had grown so used to the cloth covering my eyes–to the darkness–that it hadn’t even crossed my mind.
Kathleen turned to Lucien sharply. “Was it because of that night?” she asked. “I heard she used her abilities and fell asleep for three days straight. You didn’t even let me visit her–you just had me take over the pack.”
“I think I deserve to know that much,” she added with a cold tone.
I sighed helplessly. “I wasn’t planning on hiding it from you.”
“You didn’t speak so I thought you were,” she clicked her tongue.
Before I could speak, Lucien answered. “She had recklessly overused her skills plus the fact that she was also tired.

averworked from the pack, and lack of sleep–it took a great toil to her body.”
Well, I couldn’t retort those accusations. However, he was also at fault for making me overwork the night before the kidnapping had happened!
Disregarding the piercing glares that Kathleen had given me, I explained softly. “Well, don’t worry, it wasn’t that bad. I’m temporarily blind for now but grandma said that as long as I would take good care of my eyes, my eyesight will be back.”
Speaking of grandma, I almost forgot about her and wanted to ask regarding Kaya yet I was too preoccupied with my son and had completely forgotten about it.
It also seemed that she had already left especially that she had been busy with her pack—though I really don’t know why she was always busy when back then three years ago, she would continue to barge in our pack to come and mess with us–she especially enjoyed tormenting the warriors which was they if they know that my grandma was coming, they would hurriedly excused themselves.
But these past few months, she has become more and more busy. I tried to ask Agnes about it last time when we met but she was tight–lipped and wouldn’t let me know.
It seemed grandma had told her to not tell it to anyone and that includes me.
I sighed helplessly, shaking my head and stopped thinking about it. I’ll just ask grandma about it next time–she had been ignoring me or more like avoiding me for fear that I would ask her anything about it.
I snapped back from my thoughts when I felt Kathleen’s piercing gaze as her hand reached out, and was about to touch my face when Lucien had grabbed her wrist, stopping her completely.
“What?” Kathleen turned her face to Lucien, snapping at him.
Lucien coldly replied. “You cannot touch her eyes.”
“I wasn’t planning to touch her eyes!” she exclaimed. “I was just going to pinch her cheeks like I used to. Besides, I know that eyes are sensitive, of course I wouldn’t easily touch them.”
Hearing this, I turned my head at Lucien, reached out in the air and patted those hands that stopped Kathleen.
“Let her go. She’s just going to pinch my cheeks.” I helplessly said.
In the end, Lucien let go of Kathleen’s hand and his hand went back to my waist, tightly wrapping around it as if he didn’t want me out of his side and out of his palm.
I even doubt that if I told him to start attending the court and go back to his duties, he would also drag me with him and would suggest to have me by his side while he was handling the pack’s affair.
Even without him saying about it nor asking about it, I would choose to remain by his side. After all, even if he didn’t say anything, given with how he would remain quiet, how he would tighten his grip around my waist, and how protective he is, currently raising his guard and never lets his guard down even when we’re alone as if he was afraid that something would happen again, I know that he was still thinking about what happened that night three days ago.
Unlike before where he would completely relaxed his guard around his family, especially when there’s only the two of us, now… he never let his guard down. Especially that I’m blind now, currently cannot see and he’s afraid that someone or any enemy would suddenly come out and might use me to their advantage.
Plus the fact that I’m blind, I’m more vulnerable. I could feel his worries, anxious, and trace of self blame deep in his heart that he was trying to hide from our bond but I can still sense it especially that my sense had heightened even more.
He cannot hide it from me and even without heightening my senses, I could tell by the way he acts yet I remained oblivious

ji because Heŋow he doesn’t want me to know it nor worry about it.
All I have to focus on is to restore my eyesight so that he would be at constant edge as if he was walking on the eggshells.
“Sca? You still there?”
I snapped back from my thoughts upon hearing Kathleen’s voice, letting out a soft chuckle as I nodded my head.
“Yeah, still here.” I laughed. “Thanks a lot for lending your hand especially that no one would take care of the pack if Lucien and I weren’t here.”
I could already imagine her rolling her eyes. “Yeah, and it was wrong of me for accepting and lending you a hand. Because of it, you have lost your eyesight.”
I shook my head. “No. It was because of your help that I was able to come and find my sorr and the others. I managed to save them.”
I paused and added, “If I remained seated here and doing nothing while waiting for my son to come back–I would probably go crazy. So I think it is all worth it that I lost my eyesight in exchange for my son and the other kids‘ safety.”
I could feel Lucien stiffened beside me and the grip around my waist tightened even more.
