Scarlett’s POV
I nodded with my lips pressed together, fingers trembling as I picked up the phone, unable to meet his eyes.

The moment the call connected, before I could say a word, Alexander’s voice came through–cold and suppressed with fury.
“What were you and Lucien doing just now?”
I froze. My throat tightened, and my heartbeat went wild.
‘How do you know?” I asked instinctively, a trace of unease in my voice.
You think I can’t feel it?” His tone brimmed with rage and possessiveness. “You are my mate. No matter what happens between us, if there’s a fluctuation in your body–I feel it.”
My heart sank. So he had sensed the reaction Lucien triggered in my mark.
‘Then you should know just how disappointed I am right now.” I spoke calmly, though my voice carried restrained fury. You know everything, and yet you continue to trample on our bond?”
‘Scarlett, we haven’t broken the bond yet,” he emphasized. “You can’t do something this irresponsible.”
I won’t betray you like you did.” My voice dropped, coldness seeping into my gaze. “Until we truly end this, I won’t be as shameless as you.”
He was silent for two seconds, as if searching my voice for a crack.
I let out a bitter laugh and added, “Now you want to talk about responsibility? You were already in bed with Faye before mine had even gone cold, and now you want to question my purity?”
I heard his breathing quicken through the receiver–my words had clearly hit him–but he still gritted out, “That was… for he future of the pack.”
‘Don’t dress up your desires as sacrifice.” My tone turned icy. “You never truly respected my place beside you, and now you want to use our bond as a leash?”
He went quiet for a moment, then tried to steer the conversation back. “I just want you to know…. the connection is still
there.
Our connection died the first time you used Faye to humiliate me.” My words were sharp, laced with restrained trembling. ‘You don’t get to speak of it anymore.”
Just then, a familiar and disgusting voice came through the phone.
“Alexander? What’s going on?”
It was Faye.
I said nothing else. I hung up without hesitation.
I stood there, my heart still racing. My hand instinctively went to my neck. The mark was no longer swollen.
What remained was a strange warmth, like something had healed it–or like new skin had grown from a deep wound.

Chapter 21
Why she wasn’t hurting because of me.
That’s what truly scared me.
She didn’t need me anymore.
Footsteps came from the hall. Faye peeked in. “Alexander? You look unwell.”
I opened my eyes and looked at her, but my mind was stuck in that exact moment the call had ended.
She walked in, murmuring something soft. I couldn’t hear a word.
I didn’t stop her from approaching.
She kissed me.
She even took me in her mouth.
The mate bond trembled, reminding my body how to respond.
I gave in.
Not out of desire, but out of a desperate need to reclaim some sense of control.

I needed to hold onto something–anything–to feel like I still had power. Even if it was just physical dominance.
She moved expertly, gently, like she was comforting me… or pleasing me.
I heard her whisper softly.
She said she understood my pain.
She said Scarlett’s rebellion was just a phase.
She said Scarlett wouldn’t really leave me..
Her tone was so certain, as if I had no right to doubt it.
I closed my eyes and forced myself into that hollow warmth. My body moved, but my heart… had already been torn in two.
