Chapter 211 Three Spies

While we were still talking, Claude–who had been asleep earlier–slowly stirred. His lashes fluttered before his eyes cracked open, dazed either from the noise or simply from waking up naturally.
“Claude…” I called softly, relief washing over me the moment I saw him conscious. My gaze instinctively dropped to the bandages wrapped around his small body. “Are you okay? Does anything hurt?”
The instant I said his name, Archer’s head snapped toward him. Their hands were still clasped together, but Archer’s eyes widened as if he had just witnessed a miracle.
“You’re finally awake!” Archer exclaimed, his voice bright with pure excitement.
Claude blinked sluggishly and pushed himself up into a sitting position, though he looked slightly disoriented. His voice came out hoarse and dry.
“W… water…”
I was about to stand and fetch some when a glass was already extended from the side.
Kane.
He handed it over without a word.
Claude accepted it weakly and drank almost desperately, the sound of him gulping echoing faintly in the quiet room. He drained the entire glass before lowering it and handing it back.

“Thank you…” he muttered, voice still scratchy but clearer.
Before I could check on him again, Archer suddenly lifted the back of his palm and pressed it against Claude’s forehead. Claude frowned. “What are you doing?”
“You don’t have a fever either…” Archer murmured suspiciously. His eyes narrowed slightly. “Are you sure you’re Claude?”
I blinked.
Claude looked equally confused, clearly about to protest, but Archer quickly added-
“You seemed polite for a reason.”
A visible vein throbbed on Claude’s forehead.
He grabbed Archer’s wrist and pulled his hand away, teeth gritted.
“Although I’m injured, I still know basic manners!” he snapped.
Archer gasped dramatically. “Ah! There he is!”
I couldn’t help it.
A soft laugh slipped past my lips.
The tension that had been clinging to the room since earlier finally cracked, replaced with something lighter–warmer.
Even Kane let out the faintest scoff from the side.
Claude crossed his arms irritably, though the slight redness on his ears betrayed him. “Why would you question my identity just because I said thank you?”
Archer puffed his cheeks. “Because you never say it that sincerely.”
“I do!”
“You don’t!”
“Do too!”
“Don’t!”
I rubbed my temple lightly, though a smile tugged at my lips.
Since they had started playing tug–of–war with words–each playfully teasing the other–it was safe to say they were both fine. Especially Claude.

Kaya suddenly appeared, slipping from the door.
She moved with quiet authority, her presence alone enough to silence the room. Archer and Claude immediately stopped their pulling, their attention snapping toward her.
“Kaya.” A small smile curved my lips as she approached. “Did you find any suspicious individuals hiding within our pack?” She reached me and lowered her head slightly, rubbing it against my palm when placed my hand over her fur. The gesture was affectionate–but her eyes were sharp.
Archer, Claude, Kathleen, and Kane had all fallen silent, waiting.
Kaya’s low growl vibrated faintly in the room before she spoke through our link.
“I found three suspicious individuals. They do not belong to this pack, yet they managed to enter and blend seamlessly with the crowd. No one suspects them.”
A faint chill ran down my spine.
“I can guide you to them,” she continued. “However, you must be the only one to approach or detain them. If others move, it may alert them.”
Her eyes darkened slightly.
“It’s two women and one man. Shera. Lira. Von.”
The names settled heavily in the air.
Kathleen’s posture straightened immediately. Kane’s expression lost all trace of earlier amusement.
Archer’s fingers tightened slightly around Claude’s sleeve.
I gently stroked Kaya’s head once more, my expression turning cold.
“They’re bold,” I murmured. “Entering Nightshade so openly.”
Kaya’s growl deepened.
“They are trained. Their scents are suppressed. But they cannot hide from me.”
A faint smile touched my lips.
“Good.”
I lifted my gaze toward the others.
“Kathleen, stay with the children.”
She opened her mouth to protest, but I gave her a look that made her pause.
As much as I had promised to stay by the children’s side, once I would elimitate the traitors here, Claude and Archer can go out of the room to play like they used to, without fearing that another enemy would jump on them again just to take them lime what happened to them for two times already.
“Kane,” I continued calmly, “stay here also, protect Archer and Claude. Notify me immediately if something comes up. I’ll be back as soon as possible.”
He nodded once and didn’t say anything about it that made me breath a sigh of relief.
I looked back at the children, my hand reached out and patted their heads.

“I’m sorry, I have to go out and leave you two here for the time being despite that I promised to stay with you all the time to ease your feeling,” I pressed my lips, softly said. “However, if I could detain them, you both can play outside like you used to.” Claude was the first to answer, shaking his head while looking at me with those calm eyes. “No need to worry, Luna. I will protect Archer if something comes up and to ease your worries, we won’t leave our room until you come back.” Hearing this, I looked at him gratefully.
Archer also spoke. “I will also protect Claude while you’re away, mama. You can be at ease and do what you want to do, we won’t leave the room for the time being.”
I sighed in relief, nodding my head as I leaned closer to them, kissing their forehead. “Then I’ll be back as soon as possible.” After that, I hurried to stand up, taking necessary weapons with me and I could feel Kathleen’s eyes on me who was worried.
I looked at her helplessly. “Stay here and don’t come out. I’ll be back right away.”
“You’re really…” she sighed, shaking her head. “…you never learn, huh.”
I just chuckled and didn’t comment on it.

Seeing that I would no longer change my mind, she sighed and added.
Take care of yourself. If you can’t handle it, just run away. I know you’re strong but still, protect yourself.” Kathleen said, and added. “If my brother would see you hurt, we would be dead.”
I chuckled helplessly. “You’re exaggerating.“>
“I wish I am,” she rolled her eyes.
