Get Back The Abandoned Luna (Scarlett and Alexander) novel Chapter 228

Chapter 228

Scarlett

I couldn’t even breathe for a full minute, still trying to decide whether bringing Claude with me was a good idea, when a sudden knock pounded against my door.

Kane had left last night to patrol the Nightshade and see if there were any enemies lurking, leaving me alone with the kids.

It seemed that it was Kaneother than him, I can’t remember who else would knock out door since it was locked..

However, what was dubious was that it wasn’t a polite knock.

Rather, it was a frantic one.

I couldn’t help but furrowed my brows. What’s up with Kane, knocking urgently? Are there any enemies preparing to war the Nightshade at such early morning or spies lurking inside the pack?

I hurried to the door and pulled it open.

As expected, it was none other than Kane.

Kane stood there, chest heaving, hair disheveled as if he had run the entire way. Sweat clung to his temples, and his eyes…. his eyes were wild.

Kane?I frowned. What happened? What’s going on? Are there any enemies nearby?

There’s news,” he said between breaths. From the Alpha.

My heart stuttered.

For a second, everything around me went silent.

What?My voice came out smaller than I intended. What news?

He didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he extended his hand.

A folded letter.

My fingers trembled as I took it from himbut the moment I did, I froze.

It wasn’t sealed properly. The paper was crumpled. Stained.

Dark red stains.

Blood.

My stomach dropped. The premonition that I hope won’t come true, made my heart lurched.

They didn’t have ink,Kane said hoarsely. It came from the warrior who escaped long enough to send it. He wrote it in a hurry and he said he was chasedhis other ally was sacrificed just for him to escape. When he delivered the paper to us and arrivedhe had lost his consciousness due to blood loss, starvation, and dehydrated. He’s currently in the ward right now.

I pursed my lips, couldn’t say anything as my hand trembles, feeling as if the folded letter weight heavily and I couldn’t tear

my eyes at it.

unfolded the letter carefully, afraid it might tear

The handwriting was uneven, shaky some words smeared beyond recognition. The metallic scent hit me faintly, and I realized with horror that the fisk was not ink at all.

It was blood.

My vision blurred as I forced myself to read.

Alpha detained.

Captured.

Tortured.

Need backup. Immediately.

The letters were jagged, pressed too hard into the paper as if carved out of desperation. Some lines were dragged sideways. as though the writer’s hand had been yanked midsentence. There were streaks across the pagefinger marks, meared crimson, proof that whoever wrote this had been in a tight, merciless place.

My heart began to pound so violently it hurt.

NoI whispered.

Lucien.

Detained.

Tortured.

The word alone made my knees weaken. It keeps repeating in my head like a broken lyre that made it hard for me to breath. for how long? How long has he been caught and tortured by the Monteros?

I should have come sooner. I should have gone with him in the first place. No, we shouldn’t have underestimated the enemy just because we think we had the upperhand.

However, there was no room for regret. It already happened and the best thing to do here is to get Lucien out of the Monteros and planned the next step.

Worse comes worse, I’d just have to fight with the Alpha of the Montero.

Kane stepped closer. Scarlett, we need orders. The warriors are preparing, but we can’t move without you.

I swallowed, but the air felt too thin. My chest tightened, heat rising beneath my skinnot the soft warmth of emotion, but something fierce that is hard for me to not know what it is and just by hearing that they tortured him, made my blood boil.

They laid their hands on him.

They dared to hurt him.

I clenched the bloodstained paper in my fist, my trembling slowly turning into something steadier. Colder.

When was this sent?I asked.

Just now. However, given with the blood stainedit seemed like an hour had already passed.

forced every worry, every flicker of panic and anxiety, down into the deepest corner of my heart rewg them before they could cloud my judgment.

If we send too many warrior once, who will manage the pack while they’re gone?” I said steadily. That won’t do. What if this is their strategy? What if they want us to empty our defenses so they can infilate while we’re vulnerable? We would be

at a loss

Kane’s jaw tightened.

He understood.

But worry still shadowed his face. The pack can’t function without the Luna,he said quietly.

It can’t function without the Alpha either,I replied just as firmly.

Silence stretched between us.

I’ll go, I continued. Claude is coming with me. I’ll take three warriors. No more.

Kane’s eyes widened, Claude? Are you sure you want him to come with you along with the three warriors, Luna? That’s suicide. It’s too dangerous. Even the Alpha had been caughtwe cannot afford to get you at risk. The Alpha had explicitly forbade you from going either

A humorless sneer curled at my lips.

The Alpha who forbade me,” I said coldly, ‘is currently being tortured.

Kane fell silent

As his Luna,I continued, my voice dropping lower but burning flotter, I will not stand here and do nothing while he suffers.

lenched at his sides. Then I’ll go with you

No. I said immediately

Luna-

You’ll stay here.My tone left no room for argument. You have to stay here in order to protect Archer. You’ll protect the pack. Your presence and strength is needed here. If this is truly a trap, then they might strike while we’re gone. I need someone I trust holding this place together while were away?

Kane hesitated, his eyes showed struggles especially that the Alpha seemed to had give him a command about not letting me do anything reckless and protect me with all of his might.

But now we’re going to break those commands of his, especially that the Alpha is in danger.

Get me three of our best, I ordered. They should be reliable, strong, and obedient.”

He exhaled sharply, then nodded reluctantly. Yes, Luna

In the end, upon seeing that there was no room for argument and the time is clickingevery movement of the time could cost the Alpha’s life, he left with no other choice but to sigh and turn his back.
