Scarlett’s POV
The first thing I saw when I opened my eyes was him.
None other than Lucien
He was sitting right beside my bed, ethos braced on his knees, head tead dusty went meant bondynge for hours. The dim lighting from the bedside lampers distorms dong the dry lines of we go, and the silver posses –not with warmth, but with fury
I couldn’t help but feel guilty for some reason, although I didn’t know what I had done for him took a me to was
The moment our gazes met, his expression shifted.
Anger.
Pure, unfiltered anger.
Oh, so you’re awake? His tone was filled with mockery.
blinked at him. “Yeah. What’s wrong
What’s wrong? You’re asking me what’s wrong? Do you realize what you’re doing, hot? Do you resize how dangerow it s?!” he exclaimed, furious,
was taken aback. This was the first time I had seen him yell and get this angry with me.
frowned. “I’m not deaf. I can hear you loud and clear, so there’s no need for you to scream at me like that”
Before he could respond, I added, “What’s wrong with you? Why are you yelling at me the moment I wake up–wait, did you
out some clothes on me?”
I looked down at myself, tightly dressed in warm fabric.
Right. I just remembered that I had been bathing naked in my bathroom after I drank whiskey, but I also remembered that I drowned in the bathroom.
I paused.
I looked at him.
Seeing me looking at him, he sneered. “You remember now? What? Blaming me because you didn’t get the chance to kill yourself?”
“What, kill myself? I wasn’t!” I cried out.
However, he didn’t believe me. “If getting drunk and drowning yourself isn’t considered killing yourself, then what is?”
Before I could respond, he sneered. His voice was low but dangerous–like a growl building in his chest. “Was it because of
that bastard Alexander, huh?”
“No-
He leaned closer, his jaw tight. “If that’s the reason, I swear to the Moon Goddess, I’ll tear down his entire border wall right

I felt my pulse spike, not out of fear. I couldn’t let him go charging into w Because of the demons
Besides, I didn’t think killing Alexander would benefit me, nor would I feel satisfied by seated as

I immediately reached out, grabbing his wrist. “Stop Stop what you’re thinking Lacen regiontrovatove D wasn’t trying to kill myself!”
His gaze narrowed at my touch, but he didn’t pull away. “Then explain it to me Kight some free Tateyameter to
Scarlett.”
Hearing him call me by my name instead of little wolf made me realize he was really my fic ime
I exhaled slowly, though my body was still sore. I forced myself to meet his glare. It ringwall motor how ambitious I am and although… yes, I won’t deny that I was hurt when I got hereyed by my light

glared at him. “Let me finish.”
He mimed zipping his lips and gestured for me to go on.
rolled my eyes and continued. “…I won’t easily throw away my life over something like that. I’ve come this far and Sangtr his hard, so why the hell would I kill myself? I still want to see Alexander and his mistress fall–and make urethan he one who causes their misfortune.”
saw him take a deep breath. “And? Why were you drowning?
didn’t dare meet his gaze this time. “You already know. I’d had some whiskey earlier–apparently for anger fian ealized, so my limbs weakened–and then the next thing I knew. I passed out.”
Though I did think to ‘rest‘ at that time–there was no way I’d mention this to him, otherwise he’d get mad again
He still didn’t look fully convinced.
His brows rose. “Are you really sure?”
hurriedly nodded my head. “Super sure!”
You weren’t thinking at all,” he shot back, his tone sharp.
My temper nearly flared. “What?”
He straightened slightly, his eyes locking onto mine with unrelenting intensity. “I know how much you value your time and your work. But you’ve been pushing yourself nonstop. You can always lean on me and let me help you the way you reached out for help the first time that bastard betrayed you. If you want, I can even eliminate them for you!”
“And ruin your reputation? The reputation you’ve worked hard to build?” I snapped back.
“I told you, Scarlett. You are more important to me than that damn reputation.” His tone was sharp and his eyes were locked
onto mine.
I stiffened at his words. I could hear the loud thump of my heart, making me even more nervous.

I pursed my lips and whispered, just enough for him to hear. “You didn’t need to-

“Didn’t need what?” His voice dropped to a dangerous whisper. “Didn’t need to pull you out before you drowned? So that the first thing I’d see tomorrow is your corpse? Is that it, Scarlett?!”
I stared at him, my chest tightening.
Lucien wasn’t just angry. He was… shaken.
I’d never seen him like this. For all his composure and control, right now there was something raw in his eyes–a flicker of
fear.
I softened my grip on his wrist but didn’t let go. “I’m sorry… for worrying you. I was surprised you even arrived in time.”
His expression didn’t change, but he replied, “Kathleen found me. She was worried about you.”
That didn’t surprise me. Kathleen worried about everything–and I was sure she felt something was wrong with me earlier when I let her out of my room, which is probably why she told Lucien, her brother, that I wasn’t acting like myself.
“She said you’ve been shouldering too much lately,” he said, his voice growing softer but still tense. “She said Faye had sent something that made you lose your composure, and she said you told her Faye had been manipulating other Omegas to ruin their trust in you. She mentioned how shaken you were and told me to check up on you–only to find you like a corpse in the bathtub. What do you think I felt when I saw you like that, huh?”
I pursed my lips and hung my head. “I swear that I won’t drink before washing.”
His glare didn’t waver. “You better not. Don’t make me spank you if you dare do it again.”
I looked at him in disbelief, “Lucien!”
‘What? You want to make me see you die before me? I can’t allow that, little wolf.”
My heartbeat was almost deafening, it was so loud.
I forced myself to calm down and murmured, “We’re not the ones who can control our own deaths, Lucien. Who knows, maybe I’ll be dead-”
Before I could finish my words, he leaned forward and bit my lower lip–not hard enough to draw blood, but enough to make me gasp in shock.
‘You…”
‘Don’t,” he growled, his voice low and possessive. “Don’t you ever mention death again.”
His hand slid to the back of my neck, holding me still, his eyes blazing into mine. “I won’t allow it, little wolf.”
My heart was pounding even harder–not from fear, but from the sheer force of his presence.
“You won’t allow it?” I repeated, my tone edging into defiance.
“That’s right.” His grip didn’t loosen. “Not you. Not while you’re mine.”
The word hung between us–dangerous and electric.
“Yours?” I challenged. “That’s a bold claim, Alpha.”

His gaze flickered to my lips again, and for a moment, neither of us breathed. “Bold doesn’t mean wrong. I heard him
murmur.
I hated how my pulse reacted–how my body seemed to lean into him without my permission. My mind screamed to keep my distance—that this was wrong–to remember how dangerous wanting someone like him was. But my lips… my lips. moved before I could stop them.
I kissed him back.
It wasn’t soft or hesitant. It was heat and defiance all tangled together, like two storms colliding. His palm dug into the back of my neck and he pressed his lips against mine harder, and I could taste my own previous whiskey on the back of my tongue.
When we finally broke apart, I was breathless.
“This doesn’t mean anything,” I lied, my voice low.
His smirk was faint but with a hint of teasing. “Keep telling yourself that, little wolf, if it helps you.”
