Chapter 75
Scarlett’s POV

The corridors of the main hall were unusually busy this morning. Omegas were passing by with trays, folded linens, and some were carrying armfuls of firewood. Despite their workloads, they enjoyed chatting endlessly. I couldn’t help but sm at the sight of them busying themselves, laughing freely, and enjoying their tasks.
When I stepped into the hallway, a hush fell over them–as if someone had just pressed the mute button.
I offered a small smile to them when I noticed they were looking at me, but before I could move on, one of the younger Omegas, barely older than seventeen–the boy I had just met before, the lively one–suddenly blurted out.
“Miss Scarlett, is it true that you met Alpha Alexander, your previous Alpha, at the border last night?”
The others gasped, some whispering, and others stared wide–eyed at his boldness.
I stopped, turning toward him. His hands twisted nervously, but his eyes sparkled whenever he looked at me.
My eyes softened and I even gentled my tone when speaking to him. “What exactly did you hear?”
“That you… you met him, secretly,” he stammered, then his voice rose. “But I know that you wouldn’t do that! It’s just frustrating that they won’t believe you would never do something like meeting that man alone and in secret!”
The hall grew very still. I could feel the weight of all their eyes on me.
I chuckled and reached out to pat him on the head. “You’re right. It isn’t true.”
He breathed a sigh of relief and looked at me with a wide smile. “I knew I was right! So, why did they say that, Miss Scarlett
“I did see him last night, but that was because he trespassed on our territory while we were out patrolling the border. Lucier I, and the other warriors were also there and witnessed him trespassing. After all, we’ve increased our watches since the rogue attack–it was nothing more than duty to the pack.”
A long silence followed. Then, like a dam breaking, several Omegas sighed in relief.
“Oh, thank the Goddess.”
“I knew it couldn’t be true.”
“See? I told you she wouldn’t!”
The tension melted into easy chatter. One Omega smiled softly at me. “Forgive us, Luna. We speak without thinking sometimes and forget the weight of words.”
“You are forgiven,” I said with a faint smile. “But remember–whispers can do more harm than claws. Be certain before you repeat them.”
They hastily nodded. A small child clung to her mother’s skirt, watching me, her big eyes fixed.
“You fight the bad ones, don’t you, Luna?”
I crouched to her level, brushing a strand of hair from her face. “I do. And I’ll keep fighting them, for you and everyone here”
She beamed, and the hall filled with relieved laughter. Some of the Omegas began chatting cheerfully as they returned to their duties, the shadow of doubt already lifting.

With that, I turned toward the courtyard. The clash of weapons and the shouts of training floated through the stone wa and beckoned me forward.
“Sca!”
I paused and glanced at Kathleen, who was waving her hands in excitement and gesturing for me to come over. She was nearly sitting on the front seat, watching the half–naked warriors fight each other as part of the training.
I walked toward her and rolled my eyes. “If you weren’t my friend, I’d think you were a pervert.”
Kathleen just laughed. “Aren’t they nice to look at?”
I glanced at the muscles and brawn of the warriors and rolled my eyes. “Indeed, you’re a pervert. So this is the reason yo hesitated to meet your mate.”
Kathleen chuckled. “I’m not. I was just watching them working harder since the last attack,” she said quietly. “But some of them… well, you’ll see for yourself.”
I arched a brow. “What do you mean by that?“.
She sighed and then shrugged. “Well, some stubborn ones don’t believe you led them to victory against the rogues. Some think the other warriors who were with you and witnessed it are just giving you credit because you were chosen as Lucien
Luna.”
I just chuckled and didn’t let those words bother me. “Oh, I see.”
“Not angry?” Kathleen asked, grinning.
I chuckled and lightly pushed her. “Why should I be? I’m already happy that some warriors support
me.”
“Of course! You will be the Luna of Nightshade! As Lucien’s sister, I approve!” she said eagerly, winking at me.
I just laughed as we stepped further into the yard, and heads began to turn. Warriors lowered their weapons, Omegas paus in their chores, and younger trainees craned their necks to see. A ripple of murmurs followed me as I walked to the center the yard.
“Luna Scarlett and Kathleen,” one of the instructors greeted, bowing slightly. “We didn’t expect you this morning.”
“We came to see the progress,” I answered. “I want to know how Nightshade’s warriors are sharpening their skills.”
“Indeed, indeed! Scarlett is good at fighting!” Kathleen chimed in.
I sighed. “You make it sound like I’m a troublemaker.”
A few men exchanged glances. Some looked eager, some uncertain. Others–1 caught a flicker of doubt in their eyes- remained unconvinced.
Then a tall, broad–shouldered man stepped forward, resting his training blade across his shoulder. Garrick. His scarred face broke into a smirk.
“With respect, my Luna… watching won’t tell you much. Words and drills are one thing. But true strength is tested.”
The yard went silent.
I met his gaze. “And you’re offering yourself as the test?”
He grinned, flashing his teeth. “Aye. Many of us fought rogues that night, but not all saw your fight. Some wonder if you
v stood at the front–or if it was just a tale told after.”

A murmur ran through the crowd, some approving and some disapproving of his boldness. Kathleen moved to my side I raised my hand to still her.
“I see,” I said evenly. “You want proof.”
“Not just me,” Garrick said, glancing at the watching warriors. “All of us.”
I let the silence stretch for a heartbeat, then stepped forward into the open circle of packed dirt. “Very well. If anyone he doubts my strength, step forward. One by one, or all at once. I’ll face you, and we’ll see if any doubt remains.”
The crowd erupted–half with cheers, half with nervous laughter.
“Are you serious?” Kathleen hissed under her breath.
“I’ve never been more serious.”
Garrick slammed his blade against his shield with a grin. “Then let’s see it, Luna.”
The duel began fast. He charged with heavy strikes meant to break through quickly. I sidestepped the first, spun past the second, and drove the butt of my staff hard against his ribs. He grunted, staggered, and came at me with more force.
“You’ll have to do better than that,” I called, my breath steady.
“Don’t you worry,” he shot back, swinging with raw strength.
But brute strength was nothing against precision. I ducked, swept his legs out from under him, and knocked his blade flyin A moment later, he was flat
bride on his back with my staff pressed against his chest.
The crowd roared.
