Scarlett’s POV

The room was quiet, and Lucien’s breathing was steady beside me. The bed smelled faintly of clean linen- changed it last night while I was asleep. Lucien chuckled and pressed his lips to the crown of my head. “Rest. I already cleaned you up and changed the sheets. You should get more sleep.”

For a moment, silence stretched between us, and it wasn’t the uncomfortable kind. His gaze burned into mine, and I almost forgot how much my legs hurt.

“Now, leave.” Then he glanced at me once more, softer this time, before slipping out the door.

I let out a sigh and glanced at Lucien. “Aren’t you bullying him?”
