Gold Digger vs Gold Saver My Man's Double Life novel Chapter 10

**Marriage Without Temperature by Mark Twain**
**Chapter 2**

“Damn it!”

Callum’s complexion drained of color, transforming him into a ghostly figure against the stark hospital backdrop. Without a moment’s hesitation, he sprang into action, initiating emergency protocols with a frantic urgency.

But it was already too late. The tiny life that had once held so much potential was gone, snuffed out before it even had a chance to breathe.

And I was left teetering on the edge of oblivion, my heart racing as I lay there on that unforgiving table.

When I finally regained consciousness, I found Callum seated beside me, his eyes shadowed by dark circles that spoke volumes of sleepless nights. It was evident he had been wrestling with his own demons, the weight of guilt pressing heavily on his shoulders.

“The baby’s gone, isn’t it?” I murmured, the words barely escaping my lips, thick with despair.

A flicker of guilt washed over his face, and he gripped my hand tightly, as if trying to anchor me to this world.

“I’m so sorry. I couldn’t save him,” he said, his voice a low rumble filled with regret. “But please, don’t be too sad—we can always try for another baby. What’s most important is that you’re okay.”

Ivy, perched beside him like a devoted acolyte, nodded vigorously, her eyes wide with a desperate hope.

“Exactly! At least we saved your life. Please, don’t do anything rash.”

A cold laugh escaped my lips, sharp and bitter.

“What gives you the right to say that? You two are responsible for my baby’s death. I witnessed what you were doing in that car. I will report both of you. You’ll get exactly what you deserve!”

Their faces paled, a sudden realization dawning upon them.

Ivy dropped to her knees, her sobs echoing in the sterile room.

“I’m so sorry! I know I messed up. Please, don’t report me—I’ll lose my job!”

“I worked tirelessly to get here. Being a doctor is my only dream. If I lose that, I’ll have nothing left!”

Callum’s gaze shifted to Ivy, filled with a level of concern that churned my stomach.

He turned back to me, brow furrowed, as if trying to decipher my pain.

“I already told you it was an accident. We didn’t hit you on purpose. Do you really need to ruin her life over this?”

“It’s not like you can never have kids again. Are you really going to destroy someone’s entire future over a baby you never even met?”

Did he truly forget? That baby was his as much as it was mine. He had fought tooth and nail to protect it.

I chose silence, rolling over to face away from them, my heart heavy with sorrow.

It didn’t matter anymore.

Soon, I would be gone.

Ivy’s cries grew louder, a heart-wrenching sound that filled the air with despair. Then, as if the weight of her guilt became too much to bear, she fainted.

**Chapter 2**

In a fit of rage, I slapped her across the face, the sound echoing like thunder in the small room.

The noise summoned Callum, who rushed in, his face a mask of fury.

He took one look at the red mark on Ivy’s cheek and turned on me, his anger palpable.

“Sloane! She came here to check on you, and you hit her?!”

I raised my hand, showcasing the needle marks that marred my skin.

“She did this to me! Why on earth wouldn’t I hit her?”

A flicker of something—sympathy, perhaps—crossed his features, but before he could respond, Ivy erupted into tears.

“I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to hurt you! I just need to pass my test—I swear, I didn’t mean it!”

Callum, unable to bear her tears, moved to comfort her, his voice soft and soothing.

“It’s not your fault. Don’t blame yourself.”

I was the one suffering, yet he chose to forgive her on my behalf.

In a fit of frustration, I grabbed the nearest vase from the table and hurled it at them.

“Get out! Both of you—GET OUT!”
