Gold Digger vs Gold Saver My Man's Double Life novel Chapter 106

Chapter 6

Lydia rolled her eyes and threw up her hands in mock surrender.

“I knew it–all those brain dead soap operas have totally ruined the market.”

“Not enough, huh? fine, fine, I’ll bump it up.”

“450K 500K, 550K 600K?”

She watched me like she was at some auction, cheerfully raising the bid by fifty grand each time.

I was literally shaking with rage.

“Miss Sterling, you’re not welcome here. Get out!”

Lydia shrugged.

“Drop the act. You just want more money, right?”

“OK, no more games.”

She pulled out a pen and wrote a fresh check.

“Four million. Consider it your lottery win.”

Her pale fingertips flicked, and the check drifted to the floor. Her gaze was just as dismissive.

“You poor people have seen so little money in your lives, zero concept of real wealth.”

“But you watch too many dramas online-suddenly a few hundred million isn’t enough.”

“My bad luck having to waste time haggling with you. Take it.”

Her stiletto came down on the check.

Arms crossed, Lydia gave me an arrogant command.

“Get on your knees. Pick up that check, and the four million is yours.”

I clenched my fists, emotions churning.

In all those CEO novels I used to read, didn’t the rich parents at least have some class when they were bribing girls to disappear?

Usually just some cold line like “You’re not good enough for my son-take the money and leave.”

Never thought when my turn came, I’d have to crawl for it.

Of course, I know that to a lot of people, poor folks’ dignity is worthless.

But damn it, mine still means something to me.

I can’t stomach charity with strings attached like that.

Besides, why should 17

Darius is my boyfriend if I wanted favors, wouldn’t I just ask him?

Surely he wouldn’t humiliate me like this, right?

My slipper came down hard on that check.

I shoved past Lydia and kicked the thing all the way to the door.

Get the hell out!”

“Stay any longer and Fm throwing dirty dishwater at you!”

“You-”

Lydia’s gorgeous face flushed bright red.

“Ungrateful piece of trash!”

“You’re gonna regret this!”

She stormed out, slamming the door behind her.

I paced around the living room, fuming, grabbed my phone and tried calling Darius.

Rang and rang-no answer.

That pissed me off even more.

Darius is probably living it up right now, sitting in some Blackwood family mansion, schmoozing with all the elite power players, everyone kissing his ass and treating him like royalty.

And me?

I’m stuck in this cramped rental getting insulted by strangers.

An hour ago, we were just another ordinary couple.

Now we’re worlds apart-literally heaven and earth.

Fucking fate, man.

That night I tossed and turned, finally dozed off right before dawn.

Got maybe twenty minutes before my alarm went off.

The worst part about being a wage slave? You can’t even afford the luxury of processing your emotions.

No matter how messed up and anxious I felt, I still had to drag myself to work.

Couldn’t call in sick either-corporate bigwigs were coming down for meetings, and I was presenting.

I’d put serious work into this report.

Rehearsed it countless times, showed the draft to my boss-he loved it.
