Gold Digger vs Gold Saver My Man's Double Life novel Chapter 108

Chapter 8

I spent the next day in a daze, then my phone buzzed that evening.

1 lunged for it.

“Hello-”

Giggles came through the line.

“Claire Morrison, you turned down the carrot, so now you get the stick. Happy now?”

My face went dark.

“Lydia, what the hell do you want?”

“Aw, don’t be so mean-I’m just having some fun with you.”

Lydia sounded smug as hell.

“Teaching you a lesson so you learn some manners.”

“You gold-diggers think you can use the emperor to command the princes. Just because you have some history with Darius, you think you can make outrageous demands.”

“I wanted you to understand-when I’m offering you something, you take it. When I don’t want to give it, I have a thousand ways to get what I want without spending a dime.”

“Don’t mistake my generosity for weakness. Got it?”

I gripped the phone tighter, taking a deep breath.

Lydia’s voice turned lazy and commanding.

“Still want that four million?”

“Twenty minutes. Bulgari Hotel.”

I was about to hang up on her when Lydia added:

“Darius will be there too.”

Perfect! I’d been trying to track him down anyway!

Dead or alive, at least I deserved some kind of answer.

I hung up and immediately started changing clothes, then caught a cab straight to the hotel.

I tried to wear my most respectable outfit.

But rich people and I apparently live in different climates.

In the private banquet hall, women wore backless dresses and evening gowns, their jewelry outshining the crystal chandeliers.

Perfumed hair, clinking glasses, the works.

In my sweater, I barely had the courage to walk through that door.

Just one door between me and another universe where even the air cost money.

I hesitated at the entrance. The server didn’t rush me just smiled patiently.

“Please wait a moment. Miss Sterling is handling something but will be right with you.”

Following his gesture, I looked into the hall.

Lydia held a wine glass, her arm linked through Darius’s.

She stood on her tiptoes, whispered something in his ear. Darius raised an eyebrow and chuckled.

That same familiar smile.

But I couldn’t find a trace of our past in him.

He wore an expensive suit, hair perfectly styled, moving with easy confidence like he was born for this scene.
