Upstairs, the family doctor was examining Sophie’s injuries, with Ryker and Dexter both present.

Sophie leaned against the bed, her body covered in bloody welts from Candy’s beating.

She looked as fragile as a wilting flower, weak and pitiful.

“Dad and Dexter, you have to believe me. I swear I didn’t do it!” Sophie sobbed, tears streaming down her cheeks. Candy had hit her so hard that her face was swollen and bruised, no trace of her usual beauty. She

looked battered.

Ryker frowned. “Dexter.”

Dexter didn’t respond for a long time.

His eyes were vacant, and no one could tell what he was thinking.

“Dexter?” Ryker called out, raising his voice.

Dexter snapped back to reality. “Huh?”

“Where’s Emerson?” Ryker’s usually refined face was now cold and stern. The Greene family crossed the line this time, beating Sophie up for no reason.

Dexter glanced at Sophie and stammered, “Emerson, he…”

Ryker snapped, “Stop stammering and just say it!”

“Rhaesia University’s legal department sent Sophie a legal notice, saying she tried to manipulate public opinion to affect the admission results. Emerson got the call and brought the legal team along to deal with it,” Dexter blurted out, closing his eyes.

Ryker was stunned.

Sophie was scared of her shit.

The family doctor didn’t dare to say a word.

The room went dead silent.

“What did you just say?” Ryker asked in disbelief.

Dexter replied, “That’s exactly what you heard.”

Sophie could say she was framed in the whole Candy mess, but Rhaesia University’s legal department was handled by Broderick’s law firm, the best in the world. They’d never send out a legal notice unless they had the goods.

“Sophie, what’s going on?” Ryker asked, turning to her.

Chapter 432

Sophie stammered, “I…”

:

She opened her mouth, but just couldn’t get a single word out.

She shot Dexter a desperate look, hoping he’d come to her rescue.

But he was lost in his own world, not picking up her hint.

Dexter was still stuck in a daze.

If he saw it right, Emerson had been clutching a necklace before getting in the car. A necklace Dexter could never mistake, not even in his sleep.

“Are you… my sister?”

“No, I’m not.”

The conversation from the assessment room replayed in Dexter’s mind.

His head throbbed.

Suddenly, Aveline’s heart-wrenching scream from downstairs snapped everyone back to reality. “Ryker! Ryker! Hurry, come down!”

Ryker and Dexter exchanged a look and rushed downstairs.

As soon as they got there, they saw Aveline, one hand over her mouth and the other pointing at the TV, sobbing uncontrollably. “Ryker, it’s Stella. It’s our Stella!”

Dexter’s heart skipped a beat.

He turned his head stiffly, like a rusty puppet. The moment the face of the girl in traditional costumes flashed on the screen, it was like the last shoe finally dropped.

“Mom, what did you just say?” Dexter took a deep breath.

His mind was spinning.

Aveline was hysterical, frantically beating on Ryker’s chest. “She really is our daughter. I recognized her the second I saw her! Ryker, our daughter is back!”

Ryker was stunned into silence.

“Mom, calm down!” Dexter felt like this was all way too crazy to be real.

Aveline was laughing and crying. “I can’t calm down, Dexter! That’s your sister!”

“But she’s Stella Carter!” Dexter blurted out, his voice cracking with desperation.

It was like he was finally letting out all the air trapped in his chest, his voice hoarse and utterly confused.

Aveline was stunned into silence.

Her voice trembled with bitterness, her throat tight. “What… what did you just say?”

“She’s Stella,” Dexter choked out, his voice raw. “The one who broke my leg!”

Ryker, who had just walked in and hadn’t even wrapped his head around what was happening, just stood there, staring blankly at his wife and son.

Aveline suddenly collapsed into Ryker’s arms.

“Aveline!” Ryker and Dexter both jumped in shock, quickly pressing her philtrum to try to bring her back.

Aveline slowly came to her senses, tears streaming down her cheeks. “Ryker, we have to get our daughter back. She’s at Jaffina Channel. We need to go find her, now!”.

As she spoke, Aveline sprang to her feet, ready to bolt out the door without even changing her clothes.

“Wait, we need to check things out first. Aveline, don’t do anything rash!” Ryker grabbed her, his mind reeling. “What about Sophie?”

Aveline sobbed, “My daughter…”

She clutched her chest, pain radiating with every hit.

As the others talked, nobody noticed Sophie standing by the stairs, her face ghostly pale.

“Mom…” Sophie murmured, her voice barely audible as she called out to Aveline.

Aveline was too caught up in her own emotions to hear, but Dexter looked up, his face complicated as he glanced at Sophie.

“Mom…” Sophie stepped down the stairs, one step at a time, her voice trembling. “Don’t you want me anymore?”

Her voice was so soft, almost trembling.

Her eyes were rimmed with red.

“I swear I didn’t do anything to Candy,” Sophie murmured. “About Rhaesia University, I really don’t know. I’m telling the truth, I swear.”

‘But what about that necklace you hid? And what about keeping Stella’s identity a secret?’ Dexter’s mind was roaring with questions, but he couldn’t say a word.

But in the end, he just watched Sophie step down the stairs, unable to get a single question out.

“Mom, it hurts,” Sophie whispered, her voice trembling with pain.
