The doctor shook his head. “The bleeding just won’t stop. The blood bank’s reserves are already at a critical level. You two should try to prepare yourselves.” He softened his tone, clearly trying not to shock them.

“What?” Aveline swayed, nearly collapsing. After all, she’d raised Sophie since she was a baby. “What did you just say?”

Dexter was stunned, too.

“Doctor, is there any blood left in the bank?” Ryker caught his wife as she nearly collapsed, but before he could finish, the doctor interrupted him.

He let out a sigh.

“She’s got, at best, two hours left,” he added.

“Ryker, Sophie…” she stammered, gripping her husband’s sleeve in a panic, her face ghostly pale. Ever since Stella disappeared, Sophie had become her entire reason for living.

“If we can get her more blood, will that save her?” Dexter asked.

Ryker and Aveline didn’t say a word, just staring at him.

Suddenly, as if struck by the same thought, they both turned to look at Dexter’s broken leg.

He thought, ‘Blood. Stella!!!’Dexter’s mouth was parched, and he was feeling more and more agitated inside.

He wasn’t sure if suggesting this was the right thing to do, but he had to do so.

‘Isn’t saving a life what matters most?’ Dexter thought to himself.

‘If it really comes down to it, when Stella gets home, I’ll make it up to her. I mean, I’m her brother, right? That should make things okay! Dexter tried to convince himself.

At Jaffina Channel, as Stella made her way down the hall, the staff wearing headsets all saluted her with their gaze, giving her respectful nods as she passed.

Soon, she settled back into her seat beside Sebastian.

“Sophie can hold on for two more hours,” Sebastian’s voice was cold and low in Stella’s ear.

Stella answered, “Okay.”

Under the table, she absently toyed with Sebastian’s big hand.

Her long lashes lowered a bit.

Only thirty minutes left until the show wrapped up. Suddenly, she gave a lazy smile.
