The doctor and nurse, who had been keeping their distance ever since signing the confidentiality agreement, came over to Stella, nodding respectfully. “Ms. Carter.”

Stella nodded in response.

Stella remained calm and collected.

Ryker was stunned. “You… You…”

The doctor in a white coat glanced at him. “Mr. Clinton, Charles asked me to relay a message to you.”

Ryker was taken aback. “What is it?”

For privacy reasons, he had brought Sophie to a private hospital owned by Trent Pharmaceuticals and even called Charles to have the second floor sealed off.

“Ms. Carter is a benefactor to Trent Pharmaceuticals. Everyone here, now and in the future, answers to her,” the doctor said, meeting Ryker’s gaze, his tone laced with sarcasm.

He added, “Is that clear?”

Ryker was speechless.

Aveline just stood there, stunned.

Dexter was surprised.

Everyone was thinking, ‘What?’ in utter disbelief.

Everyone was floored. They thought ‘Is Stella a benefactor to Trent Pharmaceuticals?’

The three of them were absolutely stunned.

It was pure disbelief. None of them could wrap their heads around it.

All three whipped their heads toward Stella, who was slouched casually in her chair, resting her head on one hand. Catching their looks, she just quirked a smile, one that never reached those dark, unreadable eyes.

Aveline called out, “Stella…”

“What do they want?” Stella asked, her other hand tapping the armrest in a rhythmic pattern.

She looked totally nonchalant.

The doctor bowed respectfully, reporting like a subordinate to a boss. “Mr. and Mrs. Clinton want to draw your blood to sustain Sophie’s life.”

The cover-up was completely shredded.

“Stella! It’s not what you think! Please, let me explain…” Aveline’s mind was a total mess, her heart twisted with guilt and pain.

Stella replied, “Sure, go ahead. Explain.”

She said it lazily, not even bothering to sound interested.

Aveline just stood there, stunned.

Stella told her to explain, but Aveline couldn’t get a word out. When she met Stella’s eyes, the pressure was so intense she could barely breathe.

Aveline clung to Dexter, crying her eyes out. “Stella, Sophie’s not going to make it… Please, I’m begging you, save her, okay?”

She knew how unreasonable she sounded, but she still forced the words out.

Aveline sobbed until her voice was raw, clutching her chest, letting all her shame and embarrassment spill out. “I’m begging you, Stella, as your mom. Please, I’m begging you!”

As she spoke, she got up and knelt before Stella, the sound echoing through the room.

There was a brief pause.

Stella gave a mocking laugh. “That’s not an explanation, that’s just shameless.”

Aveline just stood there, stunned.

“Mom! What are you doing?” Dexter yelled, limping over to haul Aveline up. He glared at Stella, his voice full of outrage. “It’s just some blood! Are you really gonna make our whole family get down on our knees and beg before you’ll help?”

The doctor frowned. Even he, just a bystander, felt how nasty that sounded. He was about to say something. In the very next second, Dexter was kicked to the floor.

The doctor was left speechless.

Everyone was in shock.

Nobody even saw how Stella did it. It was so fast. It was like she didn’t move at all.

This was just nuts.

Stella’s face was a mask of indifference, while Dexter was curled up on the floor, clutching his stomach, groaning as pain exploded inside him.

It was just like that nightmare day when his leg got kicked. Dexter felt chills run down his spine, every standing on end.

“Dexter!” Ryker and Aveline cried out, panic written all over their faces.

Just as they tried to rush forward, the doctor and nurse quickly stepped in, blocking their path.

Aveline reached out in desperation. “Please, move! Stella, don’t do this. He’s your own brother!”

“Just some blood?” Stella echoed, her voice soft and slow, dripping with sarcasm.

She moved toward Dexter at a lazy pace, her whole presence radiating a chilling, almost menacing vibe.

She crouched down in front of him.

Without warning, she grabbed Dexter by the collar and yanked him halfway off the ground.

She gripped his jaw with the web of her hand, thumb and forefinger digging into his face so hard her fingertips left marks in his skin.

“Why should I have to swallow my pride just so you and Sophie can play happy family?” Stella’s voice was cold and cutting.

Stella said, her tone flat.

Her voice was merciless.

Dexter felt like he’d just been struck by lightning.

His mind went totally blank.

He wished the ground would swallow him up.

“I…” His lips quivered, his eyes flickering with panic.

Meanwhile, Ryker shouted, “That’s enough! Stop! Bodyguards!”

But the door stayed shut, refusing to open.

Outside, there was an unnerving silence.

“Don’t waste your energy,” Stella said, not even bothering to look up. She let go of Dexter, ice-cold, and took the wet wipe from the nurse like it was nothing.

She took her sweet time cleaning off her fingers.

Ryker stared at her, stunned. ‘What the hell does she mean by that?’ he thought.

“None of you are even worth fighting,” Stella scoffed, eyes half-lidded, then casually tossed the tissue into the

trash.

She sat back down as nothing had happened.

Ryker didn’t know what would happen.

Stella called out coldly, “Fabian.”

The door, locked tight just a second ago, was suddenly thrown open from the outside. Fabian, built like a tank, barreled in. “Ms. Carter! I’m here!”

Outside the door, a group of bodyguards from the Clinton family lay scattered on the ground, their wails sounding especially eerie in the silent, deserted corridor.

“Drag them out!” Fabian barked, not wanting to bother Stella.

In a flash, the Fourth Unit of Red Shadow slipped in, quick and silent.

The sound of bodies being dragged away came one after another, echoing down the hall.

Dexter coughed up blood, struggling to get to his feet with Aveline in tears, desperately trying to help him. “I…”

With a sharp motion, Fabian yanked the white curtain open.

Stella lounged back in her chair like a boss, not even bothering to turn around.

Behind her, on the hospital bed, Sophie was lying there, face deathly pale and barely clinging to life.

Bags of rare, precious blood hung from the IV stand, being transfused into her, but because of her clotting disorder, blood just kept seeping out of her wrist, and nothing could make it stop.

In one end, out the other.

Even the doctors watching couldn’t help but feel sorry for her.

What a waste.

The sight was so heartbreaking that Aveline couldn’t stop crying, tears streaming down her face.
