Chapter 440
“GVHD, or graft-versus-host disease, can happen when blood is transfused between direct relatives. It’s a life- threatening reaction.
“The chances are low, but the fatality rate is as high as 99%. If you’re unlucky enough to get it, there’s almost nothing that can save you,” Stella said.
Stella, in the calmest, most casual voice, ripped off the Clinton family’s last fig leaf.
“So that’s how it is!” Fabian, ever the simple-minded one, echoed without thinking. It wasn’t until he caught the doctor’s stunned expression that it finally hit him. “Wait, what? Direct relatives? Ms. Carter, are you saying that they are…”
Aveline thought, ‘Are they father and daughter?’
Aveline felt like she’d just been struck by lightning.
“No way, this can’t be happening!” Her face went ghostly pale as she shook her head frantically. “This isn’t real. It can’t be real!”
Dexter felt like he couldn’t breathe.
Meanwhile, Stella had already walked right up to Emerson, standing her ground as she met his gaze head-on. “At least now, there’s one thing you can be sure of.”
Her long lashes flicked up, her tone laced with sarcasm. “Sophie has always known the truth. She’s Ryker’s real daughter.”
Emerson took a big step back, almost stumbling.
He clutched the back of a chair, struggling to catch his breath.
“Ryker!” Aveline’s head felt like it was about to explode as she charged at her husband. But before she could get close, Stella shot Fabian a look, and even though he was still in shock, he instinctively jumped in to block Aveline.
“Get out of my way! Move it!” Aveline’s eyes were practically burning with rage as she turned on Fabian.
She swung her hand, trying to slap him right across the face.
“Nope, dodging!” Fabian ducked out of the way just in time.
Aveline was even more furious now, raising her hand for another slap.
Fabian said, “Still dodging!”
The doctor could only stare in stunned silence.
The nurse was stunned.

‘Is Fabian really trying to make Mrs. Clinton keel over from sheer fury?’ That thought flashed through everyone’s mind.
“Let me go! I’m going to kill her!” Aveline had totally lost it, her hair wild, eyes blazing red with rage, looking nothing like her usual graceful self, more like a madwoman.
Emerson rushed forward, grabbing his mom and trying desperately to hold her back.
“Mom! Calm down! Please, Mom!” Emerson yelled.
Emerson’s eyes were steely as he instantly forced down all his emotions. “Dexter, get your ass over here!” he barked out, spitting each word with fury.
Dexter finally snapped out of it, grabbed his mother, and pulled her into his arms.
The shock hit Aveline so hard that her hands started shaking uncontrollably, her whole body seizing up as if her blood had turned to ice.
“Mom!” Dexter cried out, his voice cracking with panic.
Chaos reigned in the room.
Emerson looked over at Stella, who was standing by the floor-to-ceiling window. Her gaze toward Aveline was cold and detached. Just as Aveline seemed about to pass out, Stella spoke up again. “Mrs. Clinton, congratulations.”
Aveline just stood there, stunned.
Stella’s words pierced through the noise, bringing Aveline back to herself in an instant. Tears poured down her face as she stared at Stella, completely shattered and desperate. “Stella, my Stella…” Aveline sobbed.
Stella just smiled, her eyes icy. “As you wished. Your choice saved the one who caused you to lose your real daughter.”
Fabian was so shocked, he looked like he’d just seen a ghost.
He just stood there, totally shell-shocked.
He thought, “The last truth bomb is wild enough, but damn, Stella has been saving the real explosion for this
moment.’
Aveline was stunned.
Dexter didn’t know what to say.
Stella stayed cool as ever, standing above it all, her gaze sweeping down at Aveline, who was clinging to Dexter for support.
Stella just smiled.
inst cav?” Even Emerson, who’d just managed to steady himself, felt his mind go totally blank.

Stella answered in a calm, almost nonchalant way, “After I found out about their connection, I did a little digging.”
She continued, “Turns out, according to the Dorestan Medical Alliance records, those two close friends who passed away were secretly seeing doctors for a persistent issue, all behind their wives’ backs. Any idea what it was?”
Emerson stared at her in disbelief.
Stella raised an eyebrow, her voice nonchalant and a little mocking. “Infertility.”
Everyone stood there, left speechless.
Even the boss of Harmony Law Firm was staring at Ryker, totally floored.
Back then, when Ryker took in the orphaned daughter of his closest friends who’d passed away and brought her into the Clinton family, he was showered with praise.
That move paved the way for him to sail through the evaluation for Clusia’s new infrastructure project, landing the Clinton family an exclusive, heavyweight national investment that year.
It felt like a bomb had gone off in Aveline’s mind. She was trembling all over, completely unable to control herself.
Stella said, “So tell me, how does a man who couldn’t have kids end up with a daughter, one who not only has the same rare blood type but also the same bleeding disorder as his so-called best friend?”
Stella’s gaze was frosty, and every word hit like a slap in the face for the Clinton family.
“The records show their neighbors in Monterra called the cops dozens of times in a single year, all because of their explosive screaming matches.
“So, with all that drama, when do you think Sophie finally found out the truth about who her real dad was?” Stella said. Her voice was sharp, her eyes sweeping over the room,
Aveline collapsed into Dexter’s arms, her eyes completely unfocused.
“No wonder…” The realization hit Aveline all at once.
She thought, ‘After we brought Sophie home, Sophie would always end up with Stella. Every night, when the nanny helped Stella bathe, she’d quietly mention finding bruises on Stella’s waist and legs.
‘I just figured it was normal. Kids roughhousing, nothing out of the ordinary.
‘It never even crossed my mind that it could be something else.’
“We’re both Dad’s daughters, so why am I the outsider, the adopted one, while she gets everything handed to her without lifting a finger?” Stella shot a sideways glance at Sophie, who was finally stabilizing after the transfusion from Ryker.

Chapter 440
Today, Sophie was lucky.
It looked like she didn’t develop GVHD.
