Chapter 477 No next time
The soldier said, “Ms. Carter said she doesn’t know you. Please leave.”
“What? But I’m her mother! Let me see her. I need to talk to her in person,” Aveline said. She felt like she’d been struck by lightning. She was so shocked her whole body trembled, and she almost couldn’t catch her breath.
The soldier raised his hand. “Please leave.”
Aveline’s face burned with shame. She clutched her chest. “But I-”
“Please leave,” the soldier repeated, whatever Aveline said.

Meanwhile, over at the Clinton Group, a meeting was underway.
Emerson’s right eyelid had been twitching all morning. He was leaning on one hand when his secretary suddenly exclaimed, “Mr. Clinton!”
“Why are you shouting?” Emerson said, clearly annoyed.
His heart gave a jolt. Something felt off.
“Our company’s stock is plummeting for no apparent reason,” the secretary stammered.
Emerson took the phone from the secretary, scanned the screen for just a second, then abruptly called off the
meeting.
He strode out of the conference room, and the moment he stepped into the hallway, his phone started ringing. It was Sebastian.
Emerson pressed his lips together, staring at the caller ID in silence.
He picked up.
“Emerson. Go pick up your mother from the base entrance,” Sebastian ordered, his tone icy.
That single line sent a chill straight down Emerson’s spine.
“Mr. Gray, what did you just say?” Emerson asked.
He sucked in a breath, barely swallowing the curse that almost slipped out. But all he got was the cold beep of
a disconnected line.
When Emerson finally pulled up at the training base entrance, he spotted Aveline still clutching her lunch box. Even with his usual patience, his mind just short-circuited.
“Mom!” He slammed the car door and marched over to Aveline, who was crying her eyes out.
“Emerson, thank goodness you’re here! Stella said she doesn’t know me. How could that be? Go tell them to bring her out again!” Aveline sobbed, her voice thick with her hometown accent as she clung to her son.
Emerson cut her off, “That’s enough!”
His temples throbbed just thinking about how much the Clinton Group had lost in such a short time.
“Mom, you can’t have it all. If you keep trying to grab everything, you’ll end up with nothing!” he said.
He knew Stella. Before Aveline dragged her to the hospital, Stella must’ve given her a chance to choose. If things had come to this, they only had themselves to blame.
If it were him, he wouldn’t even have the nerve to show up here.
After all, he’d weighed the pros and cons and signed that “sever all ties” agreement himself.
“I don’t care! Emerson, I have to see Stella! I have to see her!” Aveline cried, her voice trembling with emotion. She was so worked up that she made a move to rush the gate.
But Emerson grabbed her just in time, right before the guards were about to raise their rifles.
Emerson finally snapped, yelling at the people bind him “Why are you all just standing there? Take her back Successfully unlocked!

to the car, now!”
The assistant rushed over and quickly led the distraught Aveline back to the car.
Emerson suddenly felt a chill run down his spine. He turned his head toward the gate, and there was Sebastian, standing not far away. Sebastian’s whole presence radiated a cold, menacing aura as he stared coldly at Emerson.
“Mr. Gray, I swear this will never happen again,” Emerson said.
He knew exactly who was behind the Clinton Group’s stock crash. It was Sebastian.
Even a giant like the Clinton Group was nothing to Sebastian. If he wanted to, he could crush it with just a flick of his finger.
Stella was untouchable.
She was off-limits.
There was a brief pause.
“No next time,” Sebastian said, his voice icy and final. With that, he turned and walked away, just as quietly as he’d arrived.
But those words made Emerson break out in a cold sweat.
“Mr. Clinton, the stock is stabilized,” the secretary said, still sweating. Everything that had just happened felt unreal, as if living through a nightmare, a total rollercoaster.
Emerson didn’t say a word.
He pulled out his phone and stared at Stella’s number, hesitating. Afraid she’d block him, he glanced at his secretary. “Let me use your phone.”
The secretary was puzzled, but handed it over anyway.
Emerson kept typing, deleting, and retyping, finally settling on a message.
He sent it to Stella.

Up on the mountain, Stella’s phone screen lit up.
She glanced down.
It was an unknown number.
Emerson: [This is Emerson. I promise today’s incident won’t happen again. I apologize on behalf of my mother.
Her long lashes lifted, her gaze icy.
Her fingers moved, and this time, she actually replied to Emerson.
Stella: [If this happens again, the next one I’ll take down… Is the Clinton family.]
Her message was short and to the point.
She never had any feelings for the Clinton family to begin with.
She thought, ‘If they got destroyed, so be it.’
Stella blocked the number without a second thought, then tossed the whole thing aside, not giving it another glance.

A few days later, it was at the military airport.
After ten days of grueling training, everyone had suited up and assembled here.
In just two hours, they’d board a military transport and get air-dropped onto Sumepa Island, better known as Hell Island, to start the seventy-two-hour Blaze operation.

Right now, everyone was gathered in the lounge.
They all unzipped their combat uniforms at once, exposing their right arms so the medics could inject them with the freshly delivered shots.
“Once you land and get separated, use the techniques I taught you to find your teammates fast,” Stella said, arms crossed and voice steady. “Whatever you run into out there, keep your cool.”
As the team leader, she’d be the twenty-first to drop in with the squad, per the rules.
“Uh, Ms. Carter, what exactly are you injecting us with?” Joey asked, sounding a little nervous.
‘Huh, it’s kind of a nice shade of purple. Looks pretty cool, Joey thought.
