Chapter 488 Sophie Is About to Get Booted
Bernard looked surprised.
He exchanged a look with Stella.
“Just in case, anyone who’s curious can go take a look,” Stella said coolly, her expression calm. “Salem is just recovering from a major illness. If people don’t see it with their own eyes, the gossip will never end.”
The guards were speechless.
The crowd thought, ‘Holy crap!
‘Is she afraid no one will go, so she’s even handing them an easy way out?’
Since she put it that way, everyone here was a seasoned player. Of course, they caught the storm brewing beneath her calm words.
“Let’s go join the fun!” Allan was the first to get up, a mischievous grin on his face as he buttoned his suit jacket. Setting off a domino effect, everyone else got up and headed after Seth.
“What are you up to, kid?” Bernard asked Stella, his earlier sternness gone. Stella just raised an eyebrow and glanced at Ryder, who was still snoozing in his seat.
Stella strolled over to Ryder, grabbed an empty glass, and poured herself a drink at her own pace.
“Kids shouldn’t drink,” Ryder mumbled, not even opening his eyes.
“Oh,” Stella said, popping the tab with one hand. “I’m drinking Coke.”
She was just thirsty.
Ryder was speechless.
Soon, Stella wandered off with her glass. At the same time, Seth strode over to the janitor’s closet with his group, pounding his chest and swearing up and down, “The noise definitely came from in here!”
With that, he reached out to pull the door open.
“You sure you’re ready for what happens when you open that door?” Stella chimed in, her voice cool and unbothered from the side.
Everyone instinctively turned to look at her.
Stella stood beside Sebastian, leisurely sipping her drink.
“This is the Harper family business. Who do you think you are to butt in?” Seth said. He was so smug that he forgot himself.
The next second, Bernard let out a cold laugh. “She’s my granddaughter. If she says yes right now, I’ll have Ryder put her on the family register right then and there. Now, you tell me. Does she have the right or not?”
As soon as that was said, the whole class went nuts.
People had already sensed something was up when Bernard and Stella showed up together, but hearing it straight from the usually stone-faced, high-and-mighty Bernard was like a bomb going off in the room.
Blake and Emily froze for a moment.
At that moment, the same thought flashed through both their minds.
They thought, ‘No wonder it’s her!’
“What?” Seth was dumbstruck.
Aveline was so rattled by this that she could barely stand, nearly stumbling as she choked back sobs.
But she didn’t dare cause a scene in front of Bernard, so all she could do was cast a pleading look at Stella, who couldn’t have cared less and completely ignored her.
“Bernard, we’ll talk about this later. I’m opening the door now. If it really is Salem in there. You’d better brace yourself!” Seth gripped the doorknob, already convinced he had this in the bag.

The door swung open.
Everyone was totally floored.
Allan, without missing a beat, covered Lucas’s eyes.
Lucas was speechless.
Out of nowhere, Salem appeared with John right behind him, stone-faced. “Did someone call for me?” he said flatly.
Stunned, Seth could only gape.
His expression froze instantly.
Seth thought, ‘Wait. Salem?
‘Hold up, if Salem is out here, then who the heck is inside?’
Seth whipped his head around, staring at the two people sprawled out inside the closet, clothes all rumpled and tangled up together. Seth said, “Wait. Who the heck are they?”
His mind went completely blank.
“Oh my god! Dexter!” Aveline screamed, unable to hold it in.
Emerson couldn’t stop her in time, and a heavy, suffocating feeling settled in his chest. His worst fears had
come true.
He’d been trying his best to stop Seth from opening the door, but Seth, already drunk on his own ambition, wasn’t about to let this once-in-a-lifetime chance slip away.
Emerson instinctively glanced at Stella, who caught his gaze and gave him a lazy, teasing half-smile, raising her glass of Coke in a silent toast.
Emerson stared at her in silence.
He thought, ‘Damn!’
For once, even this usually composed gentleman couldn’t hold back and swore in his head.
“Is that really Dexter and… Holy crap!” someone blurted out.
“Wait, those clothes… Isn’t that Sophie?” another person gasped.
“No way! This is so messy!” someone else exclaimed.
The room buzzed with whispers as Sophie, her clothes in complete disarray, groggily woke up on the floor. The only thing she remembered was catching sight of Salem before someone whacked her from behind. After that, it was all a blur.
As soon as she opened her eyes, someone slapped her hard across the face, jolting her awake.
“You bitch!” Aveline spat.
Sophie was speechless.
Aveline’s bloodshot eyes glared at her, and a whole crowd was gathered at the door, including Salem. Sophie’s heart nearly stopped. ‘If Salem is standing out there, then who the hell is lying beside me?’ she thought. She barely dared to breathe as she slowly turned her head.
And there, sprawled out on the floor beside her, was Dexter.
Sophie’s eyes nearly popped out of her head in sheer disbelief.
“No!” Sophie’s mind went completely blank, as if she’d been hit by a bomb. Her whole world just blew up.
But Aveline wasn’t about to let Sophie off easy. She didn’t care if Sophie was half-naked. This was the ultimate humiliation.
Aveline lost it completely, raining slap after slap and punch after punch on Sophie, her usual grace nowhere to be seen. The whole room just watched in silence, and no one dared to step in.
