Milo’s POV

I smack Jace’s arm as we pull up in front of the fire station. Police cars and another ambulance are already parked outside. Jace, Magnus, Brenna, and I rush over, hoping we can be of some use.

A hysterical blonde woman with the largest set of tits I have ever seen is arguing with a police officer

and a paramedic.

Nearby, a man lies‘ strapped to a gurney as he is loaded into an ambulance, while two men dressed in lightweight suits stand off to the side talking on their phones.

“Hey, what’s going on here?” I ask one of the cops.

“Some guy got mugged or cracked over the head,” he says quietly. “That blonde claims he’s her boyfriend. She’s completely unhinged. She won’t calm down long enough for us to get a straight

answer. I think they called in another ambulance to sedate her.”

“We’ve got supplies here. I’ll grab them and take care of it,” Brenna says.

“We’ve got a situation,” he tells me.

I glance at Jace, who lifts his eyebrows in confusion.

“Sorry, do we know you?” I ask.

“My name is Leo, and this is my partner Roman. We’re the bodyguards Romero hired to keep an eye on

Scarlett.”

“Okay… what’s the issue?” I ask.

“She’s missing.”

“I’m sorry–what the fuck did you just say?” I ask, stunned. Jace immediately bolts back toward the

fire station.

“Scarlett is gone. You guys leaving distracted us. Then Romero called for an update. The blonde was in our line of sight, then she started freaking out, and suddenly there was a man down. Roman ran inside to check on Scarlett. In all that chaos, she disappeared.”

My heart starts pounding as I spin around and sprint toward the station. I hear people shouting her name. Jace is yelling at the top of his lungs. I run into him in the bathroom.

“It’s going to be okay. We’ll figure out what happened,” I say, “You need to calm down. Call Romero. 1

know the guards already did, but I want you to make the call too.”

He nods, and I rush back outside to the bodyguards.

“What have you done so far to find her?”

“We contacted Romero. He’s already flying back to the States. We also filed a missing persons report, but they told us she has to be gone for twenty–four hours before they’ll take action. Since she’s an adult, they think she might have left on her own.”

“There’s no way she would ever walk away from Jace or from me.”

“We’re in agreement. Based on what Romero has shared with us about the dynamic between you all and from what we’ve personally witnessed, you and Jace are clearly the center of her world. Romero is

going to rip us apart for misplacing his daughter. He hired us directly, and I won’t lie–he scares the

hell out of me,” Leo says.

“You should feel that fear. Scarlett is his one and only child. And beyond that, if anything happens to

her, you and your partner are going to be stuck dealing with me and my partner,” I snarl at him.

His nostrils flare and his hands clench into tight fists, but I couldn’t care less. He screwed this up in a

massive way. My woman is gone, my man is falling apart, and I’m seconds away from tearing this

entire station to pieces. The fury coursing through me is off the charts. I need my woman back.

“Milo! Get to the Chief’s office right now!” Brenna shouts.

I sprint toward the Chief’s office. A massive screen dominates the wall, and the second I realize

surveillance footage is playing, all the air leaves my lungs.

All of us watch as Scar toddles around the kitchen. She prepares three trays of cinnamon rolls, then pauses and lifts her head from her task. We see her wipe her hands clean and step out of the camera’s view. The feed changes, showing her walking through the bay area.

“What is she doing?” Brenna asks.

“It looks like she’s inspecting the bay,” the Chief replies.

“Can

rewind and show the bay camera before she leaves the frame?” Magnus requests.

The Chief does exactly that. The bay appears empty at first, and then suddenly a broom tips over and smacks against the floor.

“A gust of wind must’ve knocked it over just right,” Brenna says.

The Chief fast–forwards the footage. We watch Scar wander through the bay and step outside. She waves, then turns and walks back in. She notices the fallen broom, picks it up, and returns it to its proper spot. She moves toward the doors. A shadowy figure bursts in through the back entrance. She freezes, and before she can even turn around, the person grabs her. We watch her fight back until her

body slackens. The figure lifts her up and spins around.

“Son of a bitch. That motherfucker is dead!” Jace shouts.

“Get the police here immediately. We have proof she was taken,” I bark.

“This is his last known address. I’m not waiting around for the cops,” the Chief says.

He throws a file at me. Fucking Rowan–what a piece of shit. What the hell is going through his head? Is this some twisted attempt at revenge against us?

“Call Romero,” I snap at Jace. He stays right on my heels as we bolt for my truck. I whistle sharply at

Leo.

“We’ve got a lead. Stay with us!”

He gives a nod, and he and Roman rush to their vehicle. They swing into a U–turn as I blast past them. I’m not waiting for law enforcement. Rowan has our girl, and I need to reach his house now. If he’s there, Jace and I are going to destroy him. I take back roads instead of the highway–it’s quicker at this hour. Florida nightlife, even on Christmas Eve, has the main roads completely jammed.
