Milo’s POV

It takes half an hour to reach the bastard’s tiny house. It’s not in a great neighborhood, but it’s not the worst either. I slam to a stop right in the yard. Jace and I leap out and sprint to the front door. I don’t bother testing the handle–I drive my foot into it with everything I have. The door collapses like it’s made of dust. Jace and I charge inside, with Roman and Leo right behind us.
A scream tears through the room. A woman is sitting on the couch. Popcorn is scattered everywhere, and the overturned bowl lies on the floor.
“Who the fuck are you?” she shrieks.
“Where the fuck is Rowan?” I roar.
“I don’t fucking know! What did he do?”
“He took our girl. He fucking kidnapped her,” Jace yells.
O
“What girl? What do you mean he kidnapped someone?”
“And who are you?” I demand.
“I’m his sister–Gemma.”

“Gemma, Rowan took our girl tonight. Her name is Scarlett.”
“Oh–you mean Rowan’s girlfriend?”
“What?” Jace says.
“His girlfriend. He talks about her constantly. Says she’s the most beautiful woman he’s ever laid eyes on. They work together at the fire station. I arrived in town a week ago, and all he’s done is talk about
her. He keeps saying he’s going to marry her.‘
“Gemma, Rowan was fired from the station weeks ago. He harassed Scar and made derogatory
comments about my boyfriend, me, and Scar. Scarlett is ours–she’s our girlfriend,” I say.
“What? Fired? He told me he took time off to plan his proposal to Scarlett. And if she’s your girlfriend, why would he claim she was his?”
“I don’t know, but she belongs to us. Did he ever say where or how he planned to propose?” Leo asks.
It’s a solid question. I’m left speechless by the information this woman is giving us. How did Rowan become this obsessed with Scar? Did we miss the warning signs? Or is this all just retaliation for the

way we humiliated him?
“Um… he mentioned something about proposing to her out on the water, on his boat.”
“Do you happen to know which marina he keeps his boat at?” Jace asks.
Mersi
“Yeah, it’s docked at Hollywood Marina. The boat is a 2005 30 Offshore Express. The name on it is Aurora’s Wake. It’s painted black with red detailing.”
We thank her and climb back into our vehicles. I push the engine hard and speed toward the marina, Thanks to every traffic light turning green, we reach the docks in just twenty–five minutes.
The moment we arrive, we sprint toward the rows of boats tied along the slips. One docking space
stands out–it’s completely vacant.
“You think that empty slip belongs to him?” Jace asks.
“It has to,” I reply. “We need to find someone here and confirm it.” We rush straight to the marina
office, where a night security guard is inside.
He unlocks the door and looks at us. “Can I help you?”
“That empty slip outside–who does it belong to?” I ask.
He studies us, lingering on our uniforms before shifting his gaze to Roman and Leo.
“And why do you need that information?” he asks cautiously.
“Because if the owner is who we believe he is, he’s abducted a young woman, and we have no idea
what he plans to do to her,” I say, panic clear in my voice.
The guard’s expression changes instantly. He looks shaken as he walks over to a desk, and we follow
closely behind. He turns on a computer and waits for it to load.
“I could lose my job over this,” he mutters.
“This is for the right reason,” I tell him. “We’ll make sure your name never comes up.”
He steps back outside, scans the area briefly, then returns to the office.
“That’s slip thirty–five,” he says while typing into a search field. “Registered to Rowan Vance.”
“Call the police and the Coast Guard,” I say urgently. “Tell them a girl was kidnapped by this motherfucker and taken out on the water. Do you have a boat we can use?”
“No,” he answers flatly.

“Fuck,” Jace snaps.
“Hold on,” I say suddenly. “I know exactly who has a damn boat.”
I dig into my pocket and pull out my phone.

Mar
“Maisie, it’s Milo,” I say the second she answers. “Scar’s been taken–we need a boat. The guy who grabbed her took her out on the water. What? Seriously? Yes, please. Thank you–thank you so much.” I hang up and turn back to the others. “Maisie keeps a boat here, and she’s sending her security team up in a helicopter to search the water. She must be insanely rich.”
I glance at the guard. Before I can say another word, he places a set of keys into my hand.
“Everyone here knows Miss Watson,” he says. “Maisie is an unusual name. She’s ridiculously wealthy -her father owns a quarter of the boats in this marina and the Watson Yacht. Slip fifteen belongs to
her.”
I thank him quickly, and we race toward slip fifteen. There’s no time to appreciate the vessel, but I immediately sense that it’s built for speed and precision.
“Thank fuck this thing has a searchlight,” Jace says.
I fire up the engine, and we pull away from the dock. As we move farther from the marina and deeper into the darkness of the night, all I can do is pray.
