Milo’s POV
“Scar is safe–she called us herself. She’s at the hospital. Call Romero,” I yell at Leo. The smiles
spreading across his face and Roman’s mirror our own relief.
While sprinting toward my truck, we pass a police cruiser with Rowan sitting inside. He looks completely wrecked. I’m fairly certain Jace shattered his nose and maybe even damaged an eye socket. I don’t feel a shred of sympathy. Part of me wants to hurt him even more, but my priority is
reaching our girl.
Twenty–five minutes later, we burst through the hospital entrance and rush straight to the front desk.
“We’re here for Scarlett Joseph.”
“And who are you?” the woman behind the counter asks.
“I’m her husband, and this is her brother,” I blurt out, knowing it’s the fastest way to get us through.
“Room 1015. Go down the hallway, take a left, then your second right. The room will be on your left,”
she explains.

“Thank you,” I reply.
“Brother? Seriously?” Jace mutters.
“Would you rather not come back with me? You know only family is allowed,” I say.
“Yeah, okay. Good thinking,” he admits.
We move quickly toward Scar’s room. The moment I step inside, I release a breath I hadn’t realized I
was holding. She’s lying there in the bed, looking impossibly small.
“Milo, Jace!” she cries.
We rush to her side and practically collapse onto the bed. She struggles to wrap her arms around both of us at once. Each of us cups one side of her face, showering her with kisses. We take turns pressing our lips to hers, over and over. Our tears blend together between us.
“Are you okay, Princess?” Jace asks softly.
“I almost got hypothermia, but they rescued me just in time. He knocked me out with chloroform. You caught him?”
“Yeah. We got lucky and found him. He was panicking and searching for you. Jace beat the shit out of

him. I only managed one punch before he told us everything. We were ready to kill him.”
“I’m glad you didn’t. I don’t want that kind of blood on your hands. Besides, my papa will handle it.”
“Baby, what would your papa even do?”
“He has connections. I had to beg him not to go after Brennan.”
“Did you tell him Brennan assaulted you?” I ask.
“No–and neither of you will. I don’t hate Brennan. I barely think about him anymore. He was just a moment in my life, and I dealt with it back then. He’s somewhere in the city, and if he ever shows up, we’ll handle it. I was scared for a minute, but then I remembered I have both of you, and I’m stronger than I used to be. How did you figure everything out?”
“Your bodyguards told us you were missing. When we got back to the station, there was a mugging
and some hysterical woman, and it caused a distraction. I think it was Roman–one of your guards-
who realized you were gone. The Chief checked the security footage, and we saw Rowan. We took
matters into our own hands, went to his house, and confronted his sister. She told us about the boat.
Maisie came through with one for us and helped organize a search. The marina guard called the police
and the Coast Guard.”
“Then one of you should call Maisie and tell her I’ve been found.”
I nod and make the call immediately.
“Your dad will be here soon. Leo–your other bodyguard–called him six hours ago when you disappeared,” I tell her.
“Only six hours? It felt so much longer. What time is it?”
“It’s just after midnight,” Jace says, his head resting on her stomach. She gently runs her fingers through his hair.
I sit beside the bed, holding her other hand and kissing her knuckles one by one.
“Merry Christmas,” she whispers, her eyes filling with tears.
“Don’t cry, beautiful. You’re safe. We’re here. Rowan is locked up. You’ll probably need to talk to the
police later–but not right now. Close your eyes and rest. We’re not going anywhere.”
She takes a slow, steady breath and lets it out, nodding as she whispers that she loves us. Then she closes her eyes.
I place my hand on top of Jace’s head, right next to hers, linking all three of us together. The people l love are here, alive, and safe. A tear slips down my face as I look at them. I never want to feel as
