Chapter 165 Encounter
Natalie’s POV
“Hi, I’m Dylan.‘

I turn to my right as I place the bag and food containers I am carrying onto a table near the beach
bonfire, where Milo, Jace, and their friends are gathered.
“Hi, I’m Natalie. I’m Scar’s best friend.”
“Oh, I like Scar. She’s an incredible cook.”
“She really is. Are you one of the firefighters here?”
“Yeah, I work with Milo and Jace. I’m a firefighter paramedic. What about you?”
“Right now, I’m enjoying time with my best friend. Professionally, I’m a freelance writer.”
“So you travel a lot?”
“I used to when I worked for a magazine in Montana, but I recently quit after my boss refused to let me come here when Scar needed meChapter Unlocked, Enjoy Reading!ments.”
“Well,” he says with a sexy smirk, “that gives you plenty of time to have some fun, doesn’t it?”
་
I let my eyes travel over him. He is undeniably attractive. A pair of black swim trunks sits low on his
hips, leaving nothing to the imagination. His physique is completely exposed. His body is sculpted to perfection. His arms and shoulders are strong and defined, and his chest is broad and powerfully built. His stomach is tight, carved with abs that taper down into a sharp V. His hair is jet black, cut short,
and his deep chocolate–brown eyes look soulful. Since I stand at 5’9, I estimate that he is around 6’2.
He looks incredibly delicious. His thighs are thick and muscular, his calves match them, and even his
feet are strikingly attractive. What truly captivates me is how flawless his skin looks. There are no
scars anywhere, no piercings, and not a single tattoo in sight.
“You look like you might be Italian,” I say without thinking.
He lets out a sharp laugh. “That’s a solid guess. One hundred percent Italian. I actually did one of
those DNA tests. I wanted to see if I had relatives overseas and to learn about my ancestry. Turns out my family traces back entirely to Florence, Sicily, and Naples. Then some of them moved to the States in the early nineteen hundreds.”
“That’s kind of fascinating. My mom is white and my dad is Black. My dad passed away when I was really young, so it ended up just being me, my mom, and her endless parade of boyfriends. And honestly, I don’t even know why I’m telling you all of this.”

He laughs again. “Maybe you just feel at ease with me, little mama.” He drags his hand slowly down my arm before sliding it back up to my shoulder. Goosebumps instantly erupt across my skin, and a small shiver runs through me.
“Little mama? Hmm. I actually like that.”
“Your skin feels unbelievably soft. You are fucking stunning. Your eyes are gorgeous–this caramel shade that matches your skin perfectly. I could spend hours licking every inch of you.”
Jesus. I feel heat pool instantly in my bikini bottoms. I haven’t had sex in weeks. Jenson–my boss–is the last man I slept with, and even that was a couple of weeks ago.
“You’re very direct,” I tell him.
“I don’t see the point in dancing around things. If I notice someone I want, someone I’m attracted to, I go for it.”
“So… are you going for it right now?” I tease.
“You’re damn right I am.”
A giggle slips out of me before I can stop it. I glance over and see Scar standing there, completely stunned. I follow her gaze, spot Dylan, then tilt my head toward Scar and head over to her.
“Scar, are you okay?”
She turns toward me, and I catch a single tear slipping down her cheek. She quickly wipes it away and mutters some bullshit about not being the kind of woman men see a future with.
“Scar, that’s complete bullshit, and you know it,” I snap. Hearing her talk like that makes me angry, and I put the blame squarely on Brennan for planting those ideas in her head.
She continues talking, tearing herself down even more, and I feel my temper rising. I’m seconds away
from losing it. Scar is incredible, and I love her deeply. She is genuinely the best person I know. When she brings up something Gavin supposedly said, I let out an irritated huff.
“He did not say it like that,” I scold her.
Maren walks over, and I watch her try to lift Scar’s spirits. I instantly like her. I can already picture the
three of us becoming really close.
I laugh when Maren jokes that Scar can share Gavin with her, and he immediately chokes on his drink.
Yep, I’m definitely going to like her a lot.
“Natalie, can you put on The Pussycat Dolls for me? ‘Don’t Cha,‘ please.”

I give Scar a nod and walk over to one of our tote bags. I pull out the speakers, connect my phone, and
turn on the music.
Dylan makes his way over to where I’m standing by the speakers.
“What’s she doing?” he asks.
“I think she’s about to show your boys exactly why they shouldn’t mess with her heart. But I also think her pride is pretty bruised right now.”
“What did they do?” he asks, noticing Milo and Jace heading back toward their group.
“They’re flirting with some girls.”
“Well… those aren’t just random girls,” he says,
“What are you talking about?”
“They’re Jace’s sisters.”
