“Tell me you’re wearing the tiny yellow bikini–the one with the eyes and the mouth,” Maisie said.
I drifted along the racks in her shop, running my fingers over a few hangers. “Uh, no. I’m pretty sure that’s a terrible plan.”
Natalie leaned in. “Why?”
Summer’s grin turned sharp. “Because last time she wore it, she and Gavin got… busy. In the ocean.”
“Exactly,” I said, heat climbing my face. “And Maren’s going to be there. I’m not trying to wave that in her face or tease Gavin. That’s so gross of me.”
Natalie’s eyes went huge. “Hold Chapter Unlocked, Enjoy Reading! fucked in the water?”
I nodded, blushing harder.
“Was it good?”
“Fuck yes. Gavin can fuck.”
Maisie made a satisfied sound. “Oh, he absolutely can. That man is dangerous with his dick.”
Summer sighed like it pained her. “Tragic he’s stepped off the fuck–train, Nat. You could’ve taken him for a test drive, but he’s all about Maren now.”
Natalie pointed at the three of us, scandalized. “Wait. All of you have fucked him?”
We nodded in unison–and then cracked up.
“Jesus,” Natalie said, staring at me like I’d grown a second head. “You really did break out of that shell.”
“I broke out so far I sent Milo and Jace a video of me doing a slow dance and spanking myself with a crop.”
“Shut up!” Maisie and Summer yelled at the same time.

I couldn’t help it–l giggled.
Natalie grabbed my arm. “What did they say?”
“Jace texted that he can’t wait to use it on me for real. Milo sent me a video of him taking care of
himself.” My voice dipped. “It’s the hottest thing anyone’s ever sent me. So yeah, I had to break out the trusty vibrator after that.”
Natalie blew out a breath. “Damn. Maybe I need to get a man again. I forget how fun it is.”
Maisie and Summer both nodded, then looked at each other like the same idea hit them at once.
“Holy shit,” Maisie said. “We need a third.”
Summer’s eyes lit. “That literally just popped into my head too.”
I watched them sit with it, clearly turning it over. I hoped they actually did it.
Because today? Today I was going to tell Milo and Jace I was all in.
I lifted a sparkly purple two–piece from the display. “This one?”
Natalie’s approval came fast. “Yes. That color is going to eat with your skin tone.”
I took it into the dressing room.
When I faced the mirror, I nearly choked. The top was basically two triangles pretending to be coverage–my a–eolas were fighting for their lives. The bottom was worse: barely there, tied at my hips, and just one bad breath away from showing my entire ass.
I stepped out.
Whistles. A drawn–out “daaaamn.”
Maisie’s gaze swept me like a spotlight. “Giiirl, those boys are going to drool. Your face says innocent, but your body is made for sin.”
Natalie smiled, amused and wicked. “She’s not wrong. You might be headed for another round of
public sex.”
I shook my head, laughing because what else could I do?
I tugged my black sundress–the one covered in sunflowers–back over the bikini, shoved my bra and underwear into my beach bag, and slid my white sandals on. At the register, I bought the suit with my fifty–percent discount.
Natalie bumped my shoulder. “What time are we meeting the guys?”

“Jace sent a mass text. Bonfire starts at six.” I checked the time in my head. “We’ve still got a couple hours. I want to bring food.”
After we said bye to Maisie and Summer, we hit the store.
I grabbed everything for a simple seven–layer dip, then doubled it so I could make a second batch without onions–because Natalie. I added a ridiculous variety of chips. Then I piled in ingredients for
chicken lumpia and snagged several bottles of sweet chili sauce.
And I tucked away the stuff for one of Natalie’s favorite desserts where she wouldn’t see it.
She stared at the cart. “Jesus, Scar. You’re feeding an army. People are bringing things, right?”
“Yeah,” I said, still stacking items. “I just want to make sure there’s stuff we actually like.”
Her eyes caught what I’d hidden. “Oh my God. You made pineapple empanadas? I love you. I love
you.”
I laughed at how fast she went feral.
She pointed at a small pastry. I nodded.
She squealed, snatched it up, and took a bite like she’d been starving.
“Mmmm,” she moaned. “So goooood.”
We packed everything into two massive picnic baskets. I grabbed blankets and towels. Natalie hauled
the beach bags–sunscreen, extra clothes, portable speakers, all the little things we’re convinced we’ll
die without.
We loaded my car.
Natalie shut the trunk and frowned. “Why didn’t we ride with the boys again?”
“They had to go early to claim a spot and build the bonfire.” I slid into the driver’s seat. “Apparently
even on a Wednesday, the good areas get snatched up fast.”
She accepted that with a nod.
On the drive we sang along to Bishop Briggs and Lorde, loud enough to feel it in our ribs. By the time we pulled in, it was a little after six. Music drifted over the sand. People were already clustered in groups, laughing and talking with red solo cups.
Natalie and I grabbed our bags and stood there for a second, scanning.
“Is that us?” she asked.

I stared at a knot of strangers down the beach–faces I didn’t recognize. Then I turned right.
Gavin was walking hand in hand with a girl.
