Frank stepped forward, leaning on his cane, his presence commanding a measure of quiet.
“Chloe, this spectacle has gone on long enough. What matters now is allowing the service to proceed with dignity. Do not let this delay things further.” Frank shook his head gently, a sigh in his voice. “Whatever grievances exist can be addressed in due time, after…”
“Chloe, why don’t you just say it then?” Madilyn cut in with a cold scoff. “Are you claiming the fifty–one percent stake of Myers Group was left to you instead of Arthur? That’s laughable.”
“That’s right–Charles really did want me to be the one to hold onto it,” Chloe said calmly. “I said no, didn’t want anything more to do with this family, so I turned down his offer flat. But here’s what I never saw coming: Charles was perfectly fine just days prior. How’d he suddenly take a tumble down the stairs? On top of that, his will was drawn up totally different at first. How’d it end up like this? Madilyn, don’t you think you owe everyone an explanation?”
Madilyn stared at Chloe, fury simmering beneath her composed exterior. This little actually dared to question the circumstances of Charles‘ accident.
What did she have to fear?
Chloe shouldn’t dream of gaining any leverage here.

“You’re asking me? Who should I ask? Charles‘ health was failing. He had a sudden accident on the second–floor staircase. Kevin witnessed the scene. I was the one who immediately notified the entire family upon getting the news. Does the fact that I was the messenger somehow make me responsible for his fall?” Madilyn stepped forward, her defiance unwavering. “Chloe, you need evidence to support such claims. Are you accusing me of causing Charles‘ death? Then present your proof. If I harmed Charles, then let the law deal with me!”
Chloe observed Madilyn’s aggressive posture and allowed a faint, knowing smile to touch her lips. “I don’t currently have physical evidence to prove you caused Charles harm.”
Hearing this, Madilyn’s bravado swelled.
“You level an accusation without a shred of proof? On what grounds? Simply because we’ve never gotten along, you spread vile rumors and pin this on me? I could sue you for defamation. Everyone here is a witness. You have no proof, yet you come here hurling baseless accusations. Chloe, your malice knows no bounds!”
Madilyn’s outcry grew louder. Facing the family elders, Myers Group executives, and funeral guests, she launched into a performance of wounded virtue. She spoke of how she had always tried to be gracious to Chloe, only to be met with ingratitude and targeted hostility.
Their relationship had been strained, and now, driven by her own selfish motives, Chloe was

She was Arthur’s mother, a Myers by marriage. After Kane’s passing, she had remained with the family all these years, dedicating her life to it. She had done more than enough–what more could possibly be expected of her?
Charles‘ will clarified everything. Charles had trusted her, valued her contribution, even bequeathed Myers Estate to her care. The shares were in Arthur’s name, and Charles‘ liquid assets were entrusted to her management.
As for the non–liquid holdings, she had no intention of keeping them for herself. She would convert them and, honoring the family’s tradition of philanthropy, donate to charitable foundations, allowing the Myers legacy of giving to endure.
For Chloe to accuse her now… It was a knife to the heart.
