“Arthur, this sudden performance of authority is honestly a bit hard to watch,” Chloe said, tilting her head slightly with a wry half–smile. “Do you want to know the real reason Charles wanted to place fifty–one percent of the shares with me?”

Hearing this, Arthur’s expression darkened further. He remained silent.

“It was because of you, Arthur. Indecisive, hesitant–as the sole heir to this family, you were meant to live up to that legacy. But your judgment of character is profoundly flawed. You’re not just blind; your compass is broken.” Chloe’s voice was crisp and unflinching. She offered no quarter. “I’ve often wished I could give you a reality check, so you might finally see clearly.”

“You…” Arthur hadn’t expected Chloe to launch into such a direct, public character assessment. Not a single word was a crude insult, yet strung together, they formed a devastating critique.

“Arthur, are you truly so certain your mother, Madilyn, is a righteous person? If she is not, then everything you just declared in her defense will come back to haunt that proud face of yours,” Chloe fired back, posing a question that struck at the core of his conflict.

Madilyn stared fixedly at Chloe. The word “evidence” sent a jolt of pure alarm through her. Without thinking, her grip on Arthur’s arm tightened convulsively, her nails biting deeper. Arthur winced slightly, puzzled by her intense reaction.

“Mom? What is it?” Arthur asked quietly.

Madilyn jolted back to awareness and quickly shook her head. “It’s nothing. I’m just… so furious. Chloe has gone too far this time. The insults weren’t enough–just how far does she intend to push this? Will we even be able to proceed with the service?”

“What evidence do you have?” Arthur demanded, turning his attention back to Chloe.

“Yes, what evidence? If you have something, show it. All this talk is meaningless.” A voice from among the Myers family elders chimed in impatiently.

“If you possess proof, present it. I, for one, would like to see this so–called evidence!”

“Show us something that convinces everyone, or I will personally see you removed from these grounds today. I don’t care who you were or who you think is protecting you now.”

Chloe tuned out the surrounding clamor. Her eyes remained locked on Madilyn as she tapped the screen of her phone.

The video began to play. The screen was black for a second, then resolved into an image of Charles.
