Chapter 442 The Name Revealed

The way Chloe looked at Eugene–Arthur knew it was a look of acceptance, of trust. She had never once looked at him that way.
He didn’t understand why Chloe had agreed to marry him in the first place. He had assumed it was social climbing–that she had gotten close to Charles to curry favor, and through that connection, secured a marriage into the Myers family, gaining status, wealth, and influence.
Looking back now, how contemptibly foolish that assumption had been.
What was lost was truly lost. There would be no second chance in this lifetime.
Charles held Chloe’s and Eugene’s hands, his voice trembling slightly with emotion. “Mr. Rosewood, I hope you will watch over Chloe for me in the years to come. She has a stubborn streak–please don’t let any harm come to her. Protect her.”
“You have my word, Charles. I will,” Eugene replied, his tone simple and firm.
Hearing this, Charles turned his damp eyes to Chloe. “Chloe, you must take good care of yourself from now on, promise me?”
“I promise.”
“Seeing you safe and settled is all I need. Everything is as it should be now. From here on, I leave the Myers family in your care. It is the only legacy I can give you. I hope you will accept it.” Charles then glanced toward the stunned assembly of family and executives.
The elders of the Myers family and the senior managers of Myers Group had witnessed Charles‘ actions and heard the terms of his will directly.
To say they weren’t shocked would be a lie. They, too, wanted to ask Charles why–what made Chloe so worthy of such a monumental trust.
But seeing Charles in his current state, they didn’t dare press further. Charles was the founder of Myers Group. Under his leadership, they had all prospered. At this moment, his word was final, and no one would challenge it.
Charles personally thanked the guests for their attendance, and presented each with a token of appreciation from Myers Group.
And so, the “funeral” drew to a close.
Frank stepped forward and had his aides politely usher out the remaining guests, allowing the inner circle some privacy. During this time, Eugene and Chloe remained by Charles‘ side.
After sharing a few more words with Charles, Frank also spoke briefly with Eugene. Frank was visibly moved, though the specifics of their conversation were lost to the others.
Frank’s excitement was understandable–he had recognized Eugene’s identity. He approached and addressed him respectfully, “Eric!”
The sudden title left Charles utterly bewildered. He looked at Eugene, completely confused. Why was Frank

Wait… the name Eric sounded familiar. Where had he heard it before?

Frank glanced at Eugene, then at Chloe. The pieces finally clicked into place regarding the connections behind the scenes.
Eugene was clearly interested in Chloe, who had been Arthur’s wife. Now, Eugene was actively pursuing her.
Charles had just entrusted Chloe to Eugene, and Eugene had accepted the charge.
“Eric, we’ve been standing for a while. Perhaps we should adjourn to a sitting room to converse more comfortably?” Frank suggested tentatively.
“Frank, there’s no need for such formality. Eugene is fine,” came the mild reply.
Hearing this, Frank grew even more animated. “Of course!” He shot a cautious, questioning look at Eugene and, with Charles watching in utter puzzlement, received a subtle nod of assent before venturing softly, “And how is Mr. Hogan Rosewood these days?”
“He is well. As it happens, both he and my mother have been staying in the city recently. You should join them for coffee if your schedule allows,” Eugene answered simply, then looked at Chloe and smiled.
Chloe responded with a slight, playful roll of her eyes but said nothing,
Charles watched the exchange, his confusion mounting. “I… I must have been asleep too long. Frank, what on earth is going on?”
Frank glanced at Eugene once more, offered a gentle smile, then leaned close to Charles and whispered a few succinct words into his ear.
“What?!” Charles‘ expression shifted from pure confusion to outright shock.
Upon learning Eugene’s true identity and the significance of the name “Eric” from Frank, everything suddenly made perfect, dazzling sense to him.
In an instant, he understood why someone of Lawrence’s stature from Cosmos Group had readily attended the Lewis Group gala, and why such a monumental investment had been pledged so personally and decisively.
