Chloe smiled. She was about to say something when Eugene cut her off.

“I know you’re strong. I know you can handle the noise yourself. But I need to make my presence felt, don’t I?” He reached out and pulled her into a tight embrace, almost frustrated. “I told you–any woman I set my sights on, I’ll stand with her even if it means going against the world.”

“Let’s not get dramatic.” She gave a faint smile, returning the hug gently as she murmured, “Eugene, whatever happens, I want to thank you. Thank you for everything… Mr. Rosewood.”

Something in her words made him look up sharply. The way she said it gave him an odd feeling–like she was both confessing and saying goodbye at the same time.

He wanted to kiss her then, to shut down whatever she might say next before she could finish it.

But before he could move, his phone rang, cutting through the moment. Again.

Chloe gently pushed away from him. “Go handle your work.” She turned and got into the car first.

Eugene stood there a moment, glancing at the screen–his father. He didn’t answer, just ended the call.

Seeing Chloe already in the driver’s seat, he slid into the passenger side.

She drove down from the hill. At the bottom, they ran into Bruce and the others waiting for them. Bruce had driven Chloe’s car over himself.

“Mr. Rosewood, someone’s definitely manipulating the public opinion behind this. The story’s spreading fast–it might be too late to contain it now. Most people online already know, and they’re circulating some vicious rumors…” Bruce trailed off, glancing at Chloe before dropping his gaze.

“Get in touch with Landon. Have the PR team ready.” Eugene turned to Chloe. “Don’t worry about the fallout–I’ll cover whatever happens. And don’t hold back on costs, no matter what. I’ve got you.”

“I think I know who’s behind it.” Her phone rang again. Chloe glanced at the screen but didn’t pick up. Instead, she held out her hand to Bruce. “Keys.”

Bruce handed them over without a word.

“I need to get back. Robert shouldn’t be alone right now.” She walked straight to her own car.

Eugene watched her go, watched her start the engine without hesitation, turn the car around, and drive off

“Mr. Rosewood, this is getting serious. Even Cosmos Group is taking heat from netizens. Ms. Lewis‘ reputation might not recover from this. Also…” Bruce hesitated. “Your father called me. He sounded pretty pissed. So did your mother. They said you need to come see them right away–they have things to say to you.”

“Got it. I was planning to see them anyway. Do what I told you–contact Landon, get the PR team moving Eugene walked to the car waiting for him and drove off
