Bruce couldn’t help feeling relieved that the owner behind Cosmos Group went by Eric publicly. Otherwise… Eugene would have his hands full right about now.

“Gather all the evidence. Every single person and outlet that shared or commented on this–none of them get a pass.” Eugene’s instructions were brief. Before getting in the car, he added, “Tell the PR team at the company to get ready. They collect fat paychecks all year. Time they earned them. When this is over, we’re listing every account involved for legal action.”

Bruce straightened. “Yes, Mr. Rosewood.”

Chloe’s son, Robert–he’d changed his name after the divorce–now found himself at the center of a media firestorm. Even his school was swarmed with reporters. For safety reasons, the administration had asked him to stay home temporarily.

Scrolling through the news, reading comment after comment aimed at him, Robert sighed. “People have way too much free time. Everyone’s so obsessed with who my father is. Like if I knew, I’d need them to tell me? I’d have dealt with him myself.”

He snorted, then looked up at Zachary pacing nearby. “Hey, buddy. Can you stop walking back and forth in front of me? You’ve done at least a hundred laps. Aren’t you tired? My mom pays you to watch me, not to annoy me.”

Zachary stopped and fixed him with a serious look. “Kid, the fact that you’re not Arthur’s child is blowing up everywhere. If this isn’t handled right, some people with agendas might try to take back everything your mother got from the Myers family.”

“Relax. Nobody’s touching Mom’s stuff.” Robert’s voice was calm.

Zachary frowned. “What do you mean?”

Robert just smiled mysteriously. “Tell you now and it wouldn’t be fun anymore.”

“Kid, keeping secrets at your age? Bad habit. Really bad habit.” Zachary heard footsteps and turned to see Chloe coming downstairs. “The public backlash is brutal. I’ve made preparations. If the Myers family sues over Robert not being Arthur’s child, I’ll do everything I can to minimize the damage.”

Chloe smiled faintly. “Okay.”

That caught Zachary off guard. He stepped closer. “Chloe, I know the timing’s bad, but I have to say this

Charles is alive now, so he can protect you. But when he’s gone, they could come after you anytime. This could drag on for years.”

Zachary sighed. “The backlash is still building tonight. By tomorrow morning, someone will have filed a lawsuit. Legally, you don’t need to worry–I’ll make sure you don’t lose much. But the question of Robert’s biological father…”

Zachary watched them, shaking his head inwardly. This kid, so calm about everything. Who does he take after? Not Chloe, that’s for sure. Must be that mystery father of his.

Anyone capable of producing a kid this sharp had to be something special. Someone like that didn’t come along every day.
