“Charles, Ms. Lewis is easy on the eyes. You’re a lucky man, old–timer. Too bad our Mr. Myers drew the short straw, getting-“A disgruntled executive started, but the person beside him cut him off with a sharp. elbow to the ribs.
The sentence went unfinished, but no one needed it spelled out.
Charles, who had built his reputation over a lifetime, bristled at the insult. His grip tightened on his cane as he raised it, pointing at the speaker. “Say that again, you miserable piece of–Myers Group has kept you all fed for years, and this is what you’ve become? Believe me, I’ll fire every last one of you.”
The room buzzed with resentment. Charles‘ words didn’t carry the weight they once had.
The people standing before him had held onto their grievances for too long. Watching his health fail, they finally felt bold enough to let it out.
They’d chosen Arthur’s side now. Once Charles was gone and Arthur took over, their real rewards would start rolling in.
“You ungrateful lot.” Charles couldn’t catch his breath, coughing violently.
Greg stepped forward, pressing pressure points to calm him, but it barely helped.
“Charles. These people aren’t worth your anger anymore.” Chloe moved closer, her voice soft, trying to
soothe him.
Charles looked at her, took a few ragged breaths, and slowly steadied.
The scene only confirmed what everyone in the room was thinking.
“Ms. Lewis. Charles certainly listens to you, doesn’t he? Tsk tsk. That alone proves your relationship isn’t exactly normal.”
“Exactly. Since the child isn’t Mr. Myers… whose is it? You’re the mother–you’d know best.”
“Mr. Myers, the facts are right in front of you. Do you really need more proof? The child Ms. Williams is carrying is yours. For her sake, for that child’s sake, you need to fight for what’s yours.”
Arthur had been watching Chloe and Charles, his composure crumbling.
“Chloe. Can you-”
“Robert isn’t your child.” Before Arthur could finish, Chloe said it plainly. A final verdict.
Arthur stood frozen, like he’d been hit by something. He stared at her, unable to process what he’ll just
heard.
Robert wasn’t his child. Chloe had admitted it herself. He’d been ready to defend her, but she hadn’t given him the chance. She’d just said it, flat and clear.
Robert wasn’t his child.

Arthur’s gaze shifted to Robert. The boy met his eyes, and the corner of his mouth curved into a faint smile–one that looked almost like disdain.
Something inside Arthur screamed that this couldn’t be true. But the words had come from Chloe’s own mouth.
“You all heard her.” Jennifer’s voice rang’out, trembling with barely contained excitement. “Chloe said it herself–the child isn’t Arthur’s. She confessed.”
‘Ms. Lewis admitted it. We all heard her.”
‘The child isn’t Mr. Myers. Tsk tsk. Looks like everyone’s guesses were right.” Someone turned their attack coward Charles. “Charles, Ms. Lewis has admitted it. Don’t you have anything to say?”
Charles glared at the speaker, fury in his eyes.
‘Chloe.” Jennifer’s voice turned sharp. “Since you’ve admitted the child isn’t Arthur’s, you owe him an apology. You owe everyone at Myers Group an apology. And you need to hand over every asset you got from Charles.”
Here, now, in front of everyone, Chloe had finally said it. That little bastard wasn’t Arthur’s child.
Let’s see her act superior now.
She’d have to give back those billions.
Everyone waited for Chloe to apologize. Then footsteps echoed through the room. Heads turned toward the sound as several figures hurried in. Sharp eyes caught Joel, Myers Group’s head of legal, among them.
Kevin–who’d conspired with Madilyn to alter the will–had turned himself in. He was behind bars now. That left Joel holding things together.
What was Joel doing here, at this exact moment?
Jennifer was still riding her high, assuming Joel had been called by the executives to discuss changes to the shareholding structure. But that thought faltered as she processed who else was with him.
Why was Joel here with that person?
