“Why her? Why does she get everything? Why not me?”

Jennifer’s voice had taken on a desperate, unhinged edge. Without warning, she lunged at Chloe. Arthur’s eyes caught the glint of metal–somehow, she’d pulled a knife from somewhere beneath her clothes, and now she was charging forward, blade in hand.
You’d miss it if you weren’t looking closely.
“Chloe-!” Arthur’s shout cut through the room.
Heads turned. By the time anyone registered what was happening, it was too late.
Charles saw the knife when Jennifer was already inches from Chloe. She was bringing it down without hesitation.
‘Chloe!”
The old man tried to rise from his wheelchair, stumbled, and nearly fell forward.
Arthur roared and pushed himself forward, desperate to stop her. But Jennifer was already driving the
knife down.
‘Die, Chloe! Just die already!”
ennifer’s eyes locked on Chloe, wild and triumphant. A manic smile twisted her face. “You think you’re better than me? You’re nothing. I’ve got nothing left–so I’m taking you with me. You’re not fit to breathe he same air.”
A laugh bubbled up from her throat, unhinged and victorious. She’d planned for so long, clawed her way ip, finally made herself Arthur’s wife. And just when she’d gotten everything she wanted, it all dissolved ike smoke.
She couldn’t beat Chloe. Fine. If she was going down, she’d drag Chloe with her.
The knife was just insurance. If it took Chloe out, then dying was worth it.
And now Chloe was about to bleed out at her feet. Worth every second.
You think so? Then you’re in for another disappointment.”
Jennifer froze. The voice came from right in front of her. She looked up–and met Chloe’s eyes.
Calm. Composed. Not the face of someone who’d just been stabbed.
Jennifer’s gaze dropped to the knife in her hand. The blade she’d been so sure had found its mark–was caught. Stopped cold by Chloe’s bare hand.
Chloe had caught the blade. With her palm. And there wasn’t even a scratch.
How was that possible? The force behind that strike should’ve-

Jennifer stood there, stunned, unable to process what she was seeing. “Who… who the hell are you?”
Chloe looked into her dazed, desperate eyes and answered evenly, “Someone you’ll never be.”
Jennifer’s jaw tightened. Rage flared hot in her chest. She wasn’t done–she’d never be done. She yanked at the knife, trying to pull it free, but it didn’t budge. Chloe’s grip was like iron.
“Get her–now!” The police moved in and subdued Jennifer in seconds.
One of them pried the knife from her hand and shook his head. “Jennifer, even now, you’re still trying to hurt someone. The law will deal with you.”
“Let go of me—I’ll kill her! She destroyed everything–everything! I’ll destroy her too!” Jennifer thrashed, still lunging toward Chloe, but the officers pinned her arms back and slapped handcuffs on her wrists.
“Take her out,” one officer ordered. He glanced at Arthur. “Mr. Myers, we’ll need you to come down to the station later. Paperwork.”
Arthur nodded, his voice flat. “I’ll follow. There’s something I need to handle first.”
“Understood.”
The officers led Jennifer out, her shouts fading as the door closed behind them.
The room fell into a heavy, suffocating silence.
The Myers Group executives who’d been so loud before, so ready to defend Jennifer–none of them spoke now. They just stood there, eyes down.
The public mess, the scandal–Jennifer had started it, and now she’d burned for it.
If none of this had come out, Arthur would still have his dignity intact. But now? Too late.
Nobody knew whose child Jennifer was carrying. How was Arthur supposed to face Charles after this?
Charles‘ voice broke the quiet. “It’s time for the press conference.” Zachary checked his watch and gave a quiet reminder.
At the mention of the press conference, the tension in the room ratcheted up another notch. Everyone had almost forgotten.
It was supposed to be about Chloe. About the future of Myers Group. And now, after everything that had just happened… It felt almost absurd.
