Chapter 493 Jennifer’s Madness
“That little brat. I’m sending all of you to hell. I’m getting every bit of my rage back today, right l you.” Jennifer’s face twisted into a crazed grin. “I want to stab you a hundred times, make that bit suffer like she’s never suffered before. But that’s too easy on her. I’ve got something better in min make her stab herself a hundred times. Now that’s entertainment.”
Watching Jennifer spiral, Robert knew this woman was barely holding onto sanity.
He let out a cold laugh. His gaze slid past her to Jenarth, who was cowering by the door, clearly te
Jennifer at that moment was genuinely frightening. Dressed head to toe in black, hair wild, eyes b -she looked like something out of a nightmare. The bloodthirsty witch from those old stories.
Jenarth’s nervous fidgeting probably meant he was scared of his own mother too.
Tough break for him, having a mom like this.
And Jenarth?
What a ridiculous name.
Ignoring Jennifer’s hysterics, Robert looked away and stayed quiet.
How long has it been? Has Mom figured out where I am yet?
He forced his mind back to the route, replaying every moment from when he’d left the academy and fallen into their hands.
They’d stuffed him in the trunk. He couldn’t see anything. But he remembered turns, rough estimates time. Jennifer’s car had probably headed toward the western edge of the city, past the suburbs.
The wind outside this shack was strong. It carried a smell–salt, fish, the ocean.
They had to be near the water.
If someone was tracking him, by car, it’d take maybe half an hour.
He thought about the dinner plans tonight and cursed under his breath. Of all the nights for Jennifer to lose her mind, it had to be this one.
Jennifer caught him muttering to himself. Her hand shot up, ready to slap him again.
“Mommy, when are we leaving?”
Her hand froze midair. She turned to look at Jenarth, still hovering in the doorway. A smile curved across her lips. “Soon, baby. After I’m done with that woman, Mommy will take you away from here.
Jenarth swallowed hard. His voice came out small, shaky. “Monummy, maybe we should just go now? That woman–she’s dangerous. What if something goes wrong again? We might not get another chance.
Jennifer’s expression darkened at his words.

“Mommy, I don’t care about the money anymore. I don’t care about any of it. I just want us to be togeth Please. Let’s just go.”
Something flickered in Jennifer’s eyes at the fear in his voice. Her face hardened. She shoved Robert ha
He hit the ground, his back slamming into a broken shelf. A grunt escaped him, but he bit down, forcin himself silent.
Jennifer stood and walked toward Jenarth.
“Jenárth, that woman took everything from us. Everything. I’m settling this today. I want her dead. I war her to suffer. And I’m not letting her little bastard walk away either.” She glanced back at Robert. Her eye flashed.
Jenarth shrank back. The cold coming off his mother was too much. “Mommy, I’m scared.”
“Don’t be afraid, baby. Mommy’s got you. You don’t have to worry about anything. Just do exactly what I tell you.” She softened, pulling him into her arms. “You just hide where we talked about. Don’t come out until I say so. After I’m done with her, Mommy will take you away from here. We’ll go somewhere far. St
over.”
“Okay.” Jenarth’s voice was muffled against her. From the gap in her arms, he glanced toward Robert. The eyes met for a second, and something cold ran through him.
His mother had ordered him to disguise himself, sneak into the compound posing as a student, get close to Robert, and lure him outside the facility’s secure perimeter.
He’d been so careful. But the moment he’d walked up to Robert, before he could even open his mouth, Robert had looked at him and said, “Jenarth. You’re really committing to the role, huh? Fooled the teachers. Fooled everyone. Gotta hand it to you.”
Jenarth had not anticipated that Robert’s first reaction would be neither shock nor fear, but a calm, unruffled comment like this.
