Jennifer went still. She just stared at Arthur, blankly.

“Jennifer. This is on me. All of it. I couldn’t figure out what I wanted, and it led to one mistake after another. If I could go back, I’d never leave–not for a second. I’d protect the people I love.” Arthur took a step closer. “So I’m apologizing. I’m sorry.”

He lowered himself to one knee. In front of her.

“Let Robert go. He’s done nothing wrong. If it’s my life you want, take it. Right here. I’ll pay for what I did.”

Jennifer watched him. The look on her face shifted–hardened.

Even now. Even like this. He was still doing it for Chloe.

‘I’ve heard enough apologies. They don’t mean anything to me anymore.” Jennifer shrugged, indifferent. ‘If you’re really sorry, Arthur, show me. Bow. Keep bowing until I say stop.”

‘Fine. If that’s what it takes.” He went down on both knees. Lowered his head to the ground in front of her.

‘Please. Let Robert go.” He bowed again.

Jennifer watched. Unmoved. He kept going. One after another.

But she felt nothing. No satisfaction. If anything, each bow made her angrier.

‘Enough!” Her voice cut through, sharp. She waved the knife wildly before pressing it back to Robert’s hroat. “Stop performing, Arthur. Your little show doesn’t impress me.”

She turned to Chloe. “You. I want Chloe on her knees. Bowing. Admitting this is her fault. She’s the reason for all of this. If it weren’t for her, none of this would be happening. If she didn’t exist, I wouldn’t be here like this.”

Her voice rose to a scream. “Chloe! On your knees! Bow to me!”

‘Jennifer, don’t do this.” Arthur tried again. “This stays between us. I married you–1 meant it. I was serious about taking responsibility. That has nothing to do with the child. I wasn’t just going through the motions.”

Jennifer laughed. Loud and hollow. “The child? Arthur, do you even have a child in this life?”

She was laughing at him. At herself.

She’d been too sure of herself. Carolyn had outmaneuvered her, taken away her last leverage–the baby she was carrying. Now her child would grow up without a father. Would never carry the Myers name.

If she could find Carolyn, she’d kill her herself.

“Arthur. Remember what Chloe said about you?” Jennifer’s smile turned thin. “Too little, too late means nothing. Your words don’t fool me anymore.”

Arthur said nothing.

“Making you kneel and bow?” Jennifer’s grin widened. “That’s letting you off easy. I’ve changed my mind.”

Her eyes locked onto Chloe. The fury in them burned.

“I want you to take that knife and cut that face of yours. Ruin it. So no man ever looks at you again.” Her voice rose to a shriek. “I don’t care how you do it. I want to watch you destroy that face I hate.”

“Jennifer. Stop this. Now.” Arthur was on his feet, voice hard. “Whatever you want–name it. The company. Money. I’ll find a way. Just let Robert go. End this.”

“Arthur. Look at you. Begging. Offering everything. And for what? You think she cares?” Jennifer’s voice dripped with contempt. “You’re pathetic. A joke.”

A joke.

Arthur laughed at that. Bitter.

“You’re right. I am. I was just trying to make up for everything I did wrong. None of this had to happen.” He looked up at her, his eyes wet. “Jennifer. I’m begging you. Walk away from this. Now.”

“Everything you’re saying–it’s just excuses. You don’t deserve anything.” Jennifer’s voice turned wild. “You think I ever loved you? A man like you? I don’t want you. Not anymore.”

Her grip on the knife tightened. “Say one more word, and this kid’s blood is on your hands.”
