Chapter 504 The Explosion

Without a moment’s hesitation, Jennifer pressed down on the detonator.

“Boom.” Explosions ripped through the area one after another. In an instant, the ground shook violently, making it nearly impossible to keep steady.

“Robert.” Chloe immediately pulled Robert into her arms, shielding him as the blast wave surged toward them.

But Eugene was faster. He stepped in front, putting himself between Chloe and the explosion, using his own body to block the flying debris.

“Ugh.” Eugene grunted as a piece of shrapnel caught him in the shoulder.

“Eugene!” Chloe noticed and called out to him.

“Hahaha, you can all burn together!” Jennifer laughed in triumph. She looked around at the chaos, completely satisfied. But her victory lap didn’t last three seconds. With a deafening roar, an explosion went off right next to her. The force of the blast threw her backward, and she plummeted into the ocean, instantly swallowed by the waves.

Chloe watched it happen, her eyes going dark.

“Get out of here, now!” Arthur rushed over, shouting to snap them out of it and pulling Chloe back to reality.

The group managed to escape through the explosions, only catching their breath once they’d made it to a safe distance.

Bruce arrived with a team of security for the extraction. Eugene and Robert were rushed to the hospital immediately.

Outside the emergency room, Chloe stood frozen, her eyes locked on the doors.

During the blast, the shockwave had injured Eugene’s shoulder. By the time they’d escaped and met up with Bruce and the others, Eugene was already covered in blood.

Chloe didn’t care about anything else–she went straight to the hospital.

Robert was in better shape, just some scrapes on his face, nothing serious.

“Ms. Lewis, our team has searched the surrounding area for miles. We haven’t found any trace of Jennifer’s body,” Bruce approached Chloe and reported quietly.

“Alright. I understand.”

Given the circumstances–falling into the ocean after being shot–Jennifer’s chances of survival were almost zero. Maybe that was just her fate.

Such a shame about Jenarth.

“Ms. Lewis, what should we do about the boy?” Bruce asked carefully.

Chloe thought for a moment. After the explosion, at the critical moment, Arthur had managed to bring Jenarth’s body out.

“Let Arthur handle it,” Chloe said simply.

After all, Jenarth had once called Arthur “Dad“. Whatever his reasons, in the end, he’d made that sacrifice. For a kid his age, it took real courage.

Chloe wanted nothing more than to tear Jennifer apart, but you don’t blame the child. Especially not Jenarth, who’d saved Robert when it mattered most.

When Charles learned about Jenarth saving Robert, he eventually agreed to let Jenarth be buried in the Myers family plot.

Jennifer and Jenarth had always wanted to truly be part of the Myers family. Jenarth made it in–just not the way anyone wanted.

But that was a story for another time.

“Mommy, is Eugene going to be okay?” After getting his wounds treated, Robert came to Chloe’s side. Oralia and Melinda came with him.

Oralia and Melinda had rushed to the hospital as soon as they heard what happened, waiting anxiously with Robert while he was being treated. Now they followed him over.

“Is Mr. Rosewood alright?” Oralia asked worriedly, stealing a glance at the ER doors, though they offered

no answers.

Melinda looked around. Standing behind Chloe, she used her height to gently take off her suit jacket and drape it over Chloe’s shoulders.

“Hey, it’s getting chilly out here.”

Chloe gave a soft acknowledgment but didn’t say anything else. Her eyes never left the ER doors.

When the doors finally swung open, Chloe’s heart skipped a beat. Seeing Blaine walk out calmly, she suddenly felt a sense of peace wash over her.

“Grandpa, how is he?” Melinda stepped forward, asking anxiously.

Blaine looked at Chloe and said simply, “That guy? Tough as nails. He’s not going anywhere. Just some surface wounds. The blast knocked him around pretty good, but he’ll be fine in a few days.” Blaine spoke with a calm tone. “Chloe, come with me to the treatment room. Let me take care of those scrapes you’ve got. You’re so busy worrying about everyone else, you forgot about your own injuries.”

Muttering a bit to himself, Blaine walked ahead.

Melinda stood there, a little confused by her grandfather’s attitude. One minute he seemed concerned, the next he was acting like this. It almost felt like Blaine was a little annoyed about something. But why would
