Chapter 516 Trust and Desire
Eugene lifted an eyebrow just slightly. “Go ahead,” he said.

“I’ve told you before–I’m not a good person. There are things about me you still don’t know. If someday. you find out I’ve lied to you about something… would you hate me?”
Eugene’s expression shifted, suddenly growing serious. He looked at her steadily and said, his voice unwavering, “Did you forget?”
“Forget what?” Chloe was confused. She wasn’t sure where he was going with this.
“I already told you–even if you wanted to burn this whole city to the ground, I’d be right there next to you with a match.” A faint smile tugged at his lips. “So that question you just asked? It doesn’t even make sense.”
Hearing that, Chloe remembered. He really had said something like that to her before.
It was such a simple statement. Absolute. No room for doubt. She probably didn’t even need to ask–it made her feel almost foolish for bringing it up.
And yet, she’d wanted to hear it from him again. Those steady, unshakable words. That promise that even if the world turned against her, nothing would stop him from standing by her side.
And yes–even that. Even going against the world didn’t matter.
Love was like that, wasn’t it? Simple. When it felt right, you just gave in.
She didn’t pull her hand away. Her fingertips traced gently along his jaw, and a soft smile curved her lips. “Eugene,” she said again, this time with something almost like a plea tucked into his name.
He straightened up instinctively, his voice low. “Yeah?”
I… want to sleep with you.”
Her voice came out rough, almost a whisper, but every word landed clearly in the space between them.
Eugene went still. Something flickered deep in his eyes, and then his whole expression softened. He stared at her like she’d just said something that completely undid him. For a second, he looked like he might actually jump to his feet.
“Can you… say that again?” he asked, his voice barely above a breath.
Chloe looked at him, still smiling softly. The hand that had been resting on his chin moved up to his cheek, and her other hand came up to cradle his face too.
She held him like that, her palms warm against his skin, meeting the intensity in his gaze. And then she said it again.
“I said… I want to sleep with you.” Slow. Clear. Certain. No hesitation this time.
And before Eugene could even respond, she leaned in and kissed him.

It wasn’t gentle–there was something almost desperate in the way her lips pressed against his. Maybe it was the alcohol finally loosening something inside her, or maybe it was just that she’d wanted this for too long to hold back anymore.
Eugene stayed perfectly still at first, letting her take the lead, letting her touch him like she’d been waiting forever to do exactly this. But there was no excitement in his stillness–if anything, he looked almost nervous. Like he’d been waiting for this moment too, and now that it was finally here, he didn’t quite know what to do with himself.
It probably wasn’t supposed to go down like this, the girl making the first move.
When her hands started tugging at his shirt, he finally caught her wrists–gently, but firmly–and guided her hands to his chest, pressing her palms flat so she could feel his heart hammering beneath.
Chloe’s cheeks were flushed, her eyes glassy from the wine. She looked beautiful like this, soft and unguarded. She frowned slightly, clearly not happy about him stopping her.
Before she could protest, he leaned close, his lips brushing her ear. “Let me,” he murmured.
Her thoughts were scattered–she’d never been this impulsive before, and his voice pulled her back just enough to focus. When she looked up at him, her eyes were wet, shining with something too big to name.
‘Carry me,” she whispered, and without waiting, she settled onto his lap, looping her arms around his neck ucking her face close to his.
Eugene’s arm slid around her waist, and then he was lifting her, standing smoothly. She dangled for a noment before instinctively wrapping her legs around him, holding tight as he carried her toward the bedroom.
The moment her back hit the mattress, a small voice surfaced in the back of her mind. Was this really >kay?
She’d told herself so many times. Don’t mess this up. Don’t hurt him. But she couldn’t help it. She couldn’t stop herself from wanting to be close to him.
She wasn’t a good person. She knew that. But she couldn’t fight the pull.
Maybe they were never meant to last anyway.
“What are you thinking about?” Eugene’s voice was low, his breath warm against her car.
A shiver ran through her. Her whole body felt like it was burning. And when she finally looked down… Her clothes were gone.
His too.
For a second, she couldn’t meet his eyes. Panic flickered through her. She thought about pulling back. about stopping this before it went too far. But it was already too late for that.
“You’re not backing out now,” he murmured, and his fingers found hers, threading through them, palm to palm, holding tight..
“Chloe… don’t be afraid. Just trust me.”
