The subordinate kept his head down, making it perfectly clear he wasn’t going to move until Chloe got in the car.

Chloe didn’t even look at him. Her eyes stayed locked on Vincent, burning with anger.

After a few seconds of heavy silence, she finally climbed into the vehicle.

The moment she sat down, the car started moving-but instead of the reckless speed from before, it now drove smooth and steady.

As the van emerged from the underground garage, the light inside brightened. Chloe stared out the window at the familiar streets slipping by, but now, she felt nothing.

“Ms. Lewis, your phone,” the man in the passenger seat said, turning around politely.

Chloe didn’t ask questions. She didn’t say a word. She just pulled out her phone and tossed it to him.

He fumbled slightly catching it, gave a small nod, and without another word pulled out a small toolkit and started taking the phone apart.

Once it was disassembled, he removed a tiny tracking device and, right in front of her, disposed of it.

Chloe didn’t react. The tracker had been installed when she’d had the phone custom-made. If she ever went missing, Robert could find her immediately.

Now, with the signal gone, she had no way to reach him. Or Eugene.

But this was how it was supposed to be, wasn’t it?

She’d gotten too greedy. Too addicted to his arms. And this was the result.

She should’ve handled everything within the agreed time, disappeared from everyone’s sight cleanly, become someone who didn’t exist anymore.

Seeing her completely still and silent, Vincent leaned closer, his voice dripping with affection. “We’re going home. Why the long face?”

Chloe ignored him, just kept staring out the window like the passing cars were the most interesting thing in the world.

Seeing her like that, Vincent didn’t push. He just kept talking anyway, filling the silence with idle chatter about this and that.

Chloe’s gaze stayed fixed outside. She knew exactly who he meant. That so-called person who hurt her.

Vincent’s two most trusted lieutenants-Shade and Clo. Code names he’d given them himself. Inside Silverash, they were untouchable. After Vincent, their word was law.

Shade had betrayed her original purpose. She’d fallen for the wrong man-fallen for someone with the face of an angel and the heart of a complete monster.

Chloe suddenly felt sorry for that woman. What was her real name? Chloe never knew. Only her code name: Shade.

Death wasn’t the end for her. Maybe dying by Vincent’s hand was actually a kindness.

Vincent stared at her smile, momentarily caught off guard. Was this the first time she’d smiled at him like that?

No. It was the third.

His mind drifted back years ago, to the day he first met Chloe. She’d been half-dead, and he’d saved her. When she woke up and realized he was the one who pulled her back, she’d smiled and thanked him.
