Chloe was just about to head back to the driver’s seat when her expression shifted. The sound of approaching cars was getting louder-and they were definitely coming straight for her.
No sooner had she registered that than a black van swung into view right in front of her. It pulled across her path without hesitation, completely blocking her car in.
The passenger door opened, and a man dressed all in black stepped out.
When she saw him, Chloe froze for a split second.
“Miss, please get in the car,” the man said, his tone respectful.
Chloe didn’t move.
Her eyes caught the small emblem on his clothing-barely noticeable, but she knew exactly what it meant.
The Silverash insignia. How could she have forgotten about this?
So, the time had come.
Already?
Had forty-eight hours passed that fast?
She’d gotten so caught up in everything-in being happy-that it had completely slipped her mind.
“And if I don’t?” Chloe asked flatly, her gaze growing colder.
“Miss, your
skills are far beyond ours. Obviously, we’re no match for you. But… the Master said the time is up. We’re here to bring you home.”
That word-“home”-sent a chill through her carefully composed expression. It was such an innocent word, but it hit a nerve. Something inside her sparked, threatening to catch fire.
“I was actually in a pretty good mood,” she said quietly, her hands curling into fists. “But seeing you people just ruined it.”
She was pissed. Genuinely pissed right now. There were only a few people in those vehicles- she could fight her way out easily if she wanted, though it’d cause a mess.
She’d go.
She’d keep her word. Whatever she’d promised Vincent, she’d do it.

Just… not yet.
She had dinner plans tonight.

“Tell Vincent I’m busy. I’ll come back on my own later. I don’t need an escort,” Chloe said coldly. Without waiting for a response, she turned back toward the driver’s side and reached for the door handle.
Once she decided something, nobody changed her mind.
Even if it meant spilling a little blood right here, she didn’t care.
Just as she was about to force her way through, the van’s rear door slowly slid open.
As it widened, a flash of white caught her eye, and her gaze sharpened.
She met Vincent’s eyes and froze for a moment, genuinely surprised. She hadn’t expected him to come personally.
He usually traveled with a whole entourage. But here he was, in some beat-up van with just two guys-a driver and the one who’d gotten out earlier.
He really was… reckless.
“Clo-Clo, you’re already late. Past the time we agreed on. That really doesn’t make me happy. I had no choice but to come get you myself.” Vincent glanced at his watch as he spoke. His voice was soft, but his expression was clearly annoyed.
“Well, since I’m already late, a few more hours won’t hurt. I have dinner plans. We can talk after.” Chloe’s response was short. She had zero intention of wasting time with him and moved to leave.
“If you don’t get in this car right now, Eric’s real identity goes public. Everywhere. Within one minute.”
Chloe stopped mid-motion. Slowly, she turned her head toward Vincent, irritation flickering in her eyes. “You’ve been digging into my business?”
“Better safe than sorry, right? Besides, I really don’t like this Eric. If I get upset enough, I might just send him to meet his maker. What do you think about that, Clo-Clo?” Vincent drew out the last words, letting them hang.
Chloe’s eyes turned to ice. “Are you threatening me?”
“Clo-Clo, sweetheart, I would never threaten you. But you promised me you’d come back on time, and you’re already six hours, eight minutes, and fifty-seven seconds late.”

He said it with an innocent look, then added, “There. Now it’s six hours and nine minutes.”
Chloe just stared at him.
“Clo-Clo, darling, you know how much I adore you. I’ve been counting every single second, waiting for you to come back. I’ve waited so long.” His voice was pleasant-that low, almost androgynous tone that now grated on Chloe’s ears like something crawling out of the dark. Disgusting.
Her hand tightened on the car door, like she might actually crush the metal.
“Please get in the car,” Vincent spoke again, shifting elegantly to the side, leaving the spot beside him empty. Waiting for her.
The subordinate from before stepped forward again, bowing respectfully and gesturing toward the open door.
“Ms. Lewis, please.”
