Her plan was simple: push Vincent until he snapped. Get him to fight her. If she lost, she died. If she won… well, that was a different story.
Unfortunately, Vincent didn’t take the bait. For a second, she saw it-the anger flickering behind his eyes, almost breaking through. But then he pulled it back together and laughed.
“Chloe. You never stop surprising me.” He shook his head, still smiling. “I’m angry-genuinely angry. What you did really disappointed me. But you know what? It doesn’t change how much I love you.” He chuckled softly. “That special gift I mentioned? I really need to show it to you. Now, actually. Otherwise, all that preparation would’ve been a complete waste.”
Chloe’s eyes narrowed. She studied his face, trying to read him, but came up empty.
She couldn’t tell if he was pleased or furious. All she knew was that this madman was up to something again.
“It’s very special,” Vincent continued. “I told you-I really think you’re going to love it.” He snapped his fingers lightly. “Well, Chloe? Ready?”
The door swung open slowly. Chloe’s gaze snapped toward it. When it finally opened all the way, someone was standing there.
A woman. Her face was covered by a veil, features hidden. Chloe’s eyes dropped to what she was wearing.
Her clothes.
The outfit she’d changed out of earlier. One of the casual sets Eugene had Bruce buy for her. She’d worn it specifically when she went shopping. And now it was on someone else.
That pissed her off.
“Vincent.” Her voice was flat, cold. “Since when did you develop this kind of taste? It’s pathetic. Makes me lose what little respect I had for you.”
“Don’t rush.” He smiled, leaning back against the sofa like he had all the time in the world. “Take a good look. This is the gift I prepared for you.” There was something hidden in his eyes- amusement, maybe.
Chloe kept watching the woman. After Vincent spoke, she stepped inside, moving lightly, gracefully. She was wearing Chloe’s clothes. And something about the way she walked… it was weirdly familiar. Like she was mimicking Chloe’s stride. The way she moved, the rhythm of it- it was close. Too close.
The woman stopped next to Vincent and spoke softly, “Master.”

Master
Chloe’s eyes went sharp. It wasn’t the word that got her-it was the voice. The woman sounded exactly like her. Exactly.
Vincent caught the shift in her expression immediately. “Remove your veil,” he said calmly. “Let her see you.”
“Yes, Master.” The woman reached up and slowly lifted the veil.
Chloe didn’t blink. She stared, watching as the fabric fell away, revealing the face beneath.
And then she froze.
She was looking at herself.
Not metaphorically. The woman standing there had her face. Her features. Her bone structure. Even down to the little details.
For a second, Chloe couldn’t move. She stared at this person-this exact duplicate-standing in front of her. Same face. Same body. Same voice.
It was like looking into a mirror. A living, breathing copy.
The woman met her eyes and smiled. Smug. Satisfied.
Her voice came out steady, controlled. “Vincent. What the hell is this?” She was barely holding back her rage.
“This is the gift I prepared for you.” He smiled faintly, clearly proud of himself. “Isn’t she perfect? A masterpiece. My best work.”
Chloe looked at the woman again-the fake. The copy. The one wearing her clothes and her face. Her eyes went cold.
She’d let her emotions get the better of her for a second. But now she saw clearly. At first glance, sure, they looked identical. But a fake was still a fake.
The woman had traces everywhere-small scars, subtle tells. The kind of marks surgery left behind. No amount of work could hide them completely if you knew what to look for.
Chloe’s breathing evened out. She stared at Vincent, her face expressionless, and let out a cold laugh.
“Wow. I didn’t realize you loved me that much.” Her voice dripped with contempt. “So obsessed you had to carve someone else into my face? Took the idea of a replacement a little too

seriously, didn’t you?” She shook her head slowly. “You know what, Vincent? That’s just sad. Pathetic, even.”
