Chapter 558 A Father’s Collapse
Finish
When word got out about Chloe and Eugene’s wedding, Charles jumped right into putting together gifts From Chloe and Eugene to Robert, and even Chloe’s closest friends–Charles picked out something special for each one personally.
Every gift was chosen with care, hand–selected by Charles himself. The pile of presents for Chloe ended up filling an entire room. Greg couldn’t help but tease him, saying it looked more like someone was moving house.
Charles just chuckled. “This is her home,” he explained. “I’m putting together a wedding gift for Chloe. From now on, she’ll have her own family, a warm and happy home. As part of her family, it’s only right 1 make sure she has everything she needs.”
He’d even thought ahead, picking out gifts for the children Chloe and Eugene might have someday–bo or girls, it didn’t matter. A family ought to be full of life, and Charles truly hoped the two of them would be blessed with plenty of kids, so they could build a happy life together.
Go ahead and load these into the car,” Charles instructed, looking over the room with deep satisfaction. When the time comes, we’ll send everything over. The Myers family’s gifts should never come up short.
Greg stood nearby, smiling as he shared in Charles‘ joy.
ust then, Charles‘ phone rang.
I was Arthur. The moment Charles saw the name on the screen, his face clouded over. He handed the phone to Greg without answering. “You take it, Greg. I don’t have the patience for him right now.”
Recognizing it was Arthur, Greg gave a slight smile and took the phone.
Arthur had really messed things up for himself–he’d been dealt a good hand but played it terribly. The act that he still carried the Myers name was a mercy in itself. What else did he have to complain about?
Greg answered the call. “Greg speaking. What’s going on?”
But as he listened, his expression shifted abruptly.
“What?”
Charles had been imagining the look on Chloe’s face when she received all the gifts. Hearing Greg’s stunned reaction, he glanced up.
“Understood,” Greg said into the phone, his tone turning serious. ‘T’ll let him know right away
He ended the call and turned back to Charles, his face grim. “Mr. Myers, Ms. Lewis is in trouble. It sounds… pretty bad.”
“What happened?”
Greg laid it out: Chloe was missing Jennifer had disguised herself as Chloe and gotten close to Eugene. The woman everyone thought was marrying Eugene was actually Jennifer. Now that Jennifer’s scheme had been exposed, she’d taken off.

Chloe was nowhere to be found. Eugene had pulled every string he could to search for her, worldwide. When Arthur caught wind of it, he’d joined the effort too.
“How could this happen?” Charles felt a wave of disgust at the mention of Jennifer. That woman was nothing but bad news. And to think it was his own good–for–nothing grandson, Arthur, who’d brought her into the family.
What a mess.
A complete disaster.
“Send our people to help,” Charles ordered, taking the phone back from Greg. He dialed Arthur himself. “Follow Eugene’s lead and support them however you can.”
On the other end, Arthur’s voice came through, quiet and pleading. “Grandfather… you know something about Chloe’s situation, don’t you?”
Charles frowned, his expression darkening.
He did know a little–but not much.
Could it be that Chloe’s disappearance meant those people had found her?
The thought sent a sharp pang through Charles‘ chest.
That girl…” He paused, then explained briefly how Chloe had saved him years before.
Back then, Chloe had been trying to get away from some kind of organization. She was badly hurt, hanging on by a thread, and yet she’d still managed to rescue him. For the next two months, Charles used every resource he had to nurse her back from the brink.
Afterward, Chloe kept a low profile at his side, Marrying into the Myers family had also been a way to stay out of trouble.
I tried asking her about that group–how dangerous they were, what they wanted, Charles said, gripping the phone tighter. “But she never told me a thing. Arthur, listen–I don’t care what it takes or how you do it, but you help find Chloe. That girl has been through enough already. She can’t take any more hari.
‘We owe her that. Our family owes her,” Charles added, his voice growing rough.
I understand, Grandfather,” Arthur replied quietly before hanging up
Charles stared at the ended call, his breathing unsteady.
“That girl… she always takes everything on herself, quietly. She shouldn’t have to. If she’s in trouble, she can tell people. No matter what it is, everyone would help her. He handed the phone back to Greg, then suddenly clutched his chest, his face contorted in pain.
