Chapter 568 Memories of Vincent
When exactly had she begun to despise Vincent so deeply?
Finishers
Chloe walked out, planning to leave the castle and wander around the island. Since Vincent had already made it clear she could come and go as she pleased, she might as well make the most of it.
“Chloe, I believe time will change your mind eventually. I’ll wait for that day.”
Vincent’s voice followed her from behind. She allowed herself a faint, almost humorless smile. “You won’t live long enough to see it.”
Now she felt like laughing at herself. She was never the kind–hearted type to begin with–so where did all this misplaced sympathy keep coming from?
If she had never met Eugene, would her feelings toward Vincent have been different?
Vincent’s status, power, and wealth were beyond measure. A single nod from her, and this man would move heaven and earth for her–she knew that from experience.
But there were no “what–ifs” in life. Falling for Eugene wasn’t some accident, either. Back when she was with Arthur, she never entertained any grand emotions–marrying him for stability and a secure identity had been enough.
he’d ever felt anything real for Vincent, she wouldn’t have thought about leaving in the first
Maybe she was just being greedy. Here, in this lonely place, she’d actually started to miss him.
Eugene… now that she was gone, was he searching everywhere for her?
couring the whole world in a panic… Was he in pain?
And what about Robert?
Was Robert there with him? Were they doing okay?
She had no right to dwell on any of that now. As long as they were both safe and sound, that was all that mattered.
The little she could still do for them ended right here.

“What are you doing here?” Charles‘ voice sounded even more weathered than before.
Just rest, Grandpa. I’m here to look after you,” Arthur replied plainly. “Greg’s been by your side for hours. I told him to go home and get some rest.”
Hearing that, Charles‘ expression tightened slightly, but in the end he said nothing.
He glanced toward the window and realized it was already the next day. The previous afternoon, he’d gotten a call, learned what happened to Chloe, worked himself into a state, felt a stabbing pain in his chest, and then everything went black.
Now, opening his eyes again, so much time had slipped by.
“I’m fine now. Help me gather my things. Tell the hospital I’m going back home,” Charles said, his tone quiet but firm.
“Grandpa, you can’t. Blaine said you’re not to leave the hospital. You need to stay under observation–your condition isn’t stable enough for discharge,” Arthur objected immediately.

If he walked out now and something happened, not even a miracle could save him.
Hearing Arthur’s reply, Charles just stared at him, his eyes growing sharper with displeasure. He was on the verge of an outburst.
“Arthur, are you telling me what to do?” Charles said sternly, his voice gaining an edge.
Hearing those words, Arthur was abruptly reminded of Eugene–how he’d said the exact same thing to him not long before.
Did they coordinate this? Was there really no other line they could use?
“I’m not telling you what to do. I’m just stating the facts, Grandpa. In your current state, you are not cleared to be discharged. You have to stay here for continuous monitoring,” Arthur said, keeping his tone as earnest as he could.

Arthast didn’t more. Part of him knew he should back off after being spoken to like that, but he held his ground
“Grandpa, Chloe’s been taken–just vanished into thin air. We need to find her and bring her bark,” Arthur said, voice low and urgent. “If something happens to you now, in this condition, how will we ever have a chance of finding her*”
