“Don’t worry–I’ve got you. You’ll pick it up,” Nance said, his smile warmer and more encouraging than before.

Chloe stayed silent.

By the time Eugene arrived at the venue, the guests were already swept up in the lively beat of the music.

He was attending under the name Eric, and the event organizers had taken his presence seriously–senior staff had been assigned to host him personally. They escorted him through displays of the research team’s equipment and data, even sharing some findings that hadn’t yet been made public.

With a respectful nod, he stepped back, leaving Eugene with Lillian.

“It’s an honor to share a dance with you, Mr. Meader,” Lillian said, her voice smooth as she offered her hand.
